S3fix Problems

Post by RampantParanoia »

Hi Guys

First off I've searched the forum a fair bit and can't find what I'm looking for, but apologies if somebody's already asked this...

I came across Raynor's guide for getting the best out of UT99 and decided to give it a go. I'm running W7 x64 and this is a clean install of the GOTY edition btw. I've fallen down at only the second step  When I run S3fix.exe in the textures folder this happens:

Halp?

Cheers

In case you want to convert the UT CD`s S3TC textures, make yourself a favor and download them from unrealtexture.com (with "some" more of them as well).
http://www.uttexture.com/UT/Website/Dow ... xtures.htm
Apart from that, it is very unlikely that anybody can help you with that small converter program.

Try running this as administrator (right click -> Run as administrator).

Like Creavion said, do yourself a favor. pick a Hi-res S3TC replacement pack that suits the amount of video RAM you have, and just over-write the old files anyway.
You will not regret it.

Xpickups and Wormbo's enhancements will make any UT map look and feel much more modern.
The UT99 page on my site has links to more things that can add new joy to the old beast.

Unfortunately the packs seem to vary in completeness, but I have used the pack aimed at 512MB video RAM with no problems.
But I haven't played online with it, so I don't know about skating players with it.

Thanks for the replies guys

Running it as an admin doesn't help so I figure I'll try some newer textures instead. I can't find any download links on the link that Creavion sent though, am I retarded or are they simply not there?

The links are always on the left side (that grey table looking frame)... I admit the website is just too confusing!

Unfortunately the texture site is over-engineered. I navigate the folder structure instead, and avoid the HTML.

You no longer need to use that fix s3fix program. The textures are good to go as is. Find DIEHARD's directions for these textures and follow the directions. They'll work.
