Actually, the way this is supposed to work:

JUDGING:

The contest maps are collected by judges -
The maps are first scored by judge(s) - 6 points max...

The map scores are adjusted for penalties -
- if not ctf, dm, mh, then minus 1 point
- if not xmas, minus 1 point
- if not "epic" in some way, minus 1 point
- if late then minus 1 point

so if a map scored 6/6 then lost all of the above points, it would be 2/6.

- public vote for BEST overall map earns 1 EXTRA point - so id the example map above WON the vote
then it would score 2/6 + 1 = 3/6.

originally there was supposed to be best ctf, best dm, best mh, and then best overall, but there are not
enough maps, so we'll just do one vote for all maps...

so, hope that makes sense...

MAP-PACK:
- the MAPPACK will follow AFTER the scoring and voting and winner is determined.
- the MAPPACK can have V2 maps (fixed bugs, etc) because that makes a better mappack

so if you need to fix anything in your map, do it in a V2 and we'll use that version in the final
mappack... sounds fair?

VOTING POLL -

It is going to take some days (maybe a week or so) for the judges (Firefly and editor Dave)
to sort out the scores, then they will post results in a JUDGING thread... meanwhile we
should start the VOTING POLL and run it for at least a week -

hopefully a server hosting the contest maps will be available at the start of the poll -
i know Jack is setting one up, there may be other servers as well...

We can all go PLAY for a good week, try all the maps and then put in our votes ...

GenMokai (?) i think will set up the poll - a vote for fav 3 maps means better results, i think :)

The judges will be finished scoring at some point during the POLL week, and then the WINNER
can be calculated at the end of the poll...

The we assemble the mappack and upload it at MapRaider (and other sites)

Sound like a plan?

sounds fair.
my concern is though that people will vote with out having played all the maps.
half of the links in the this thread lead me to some unclear website that downloads other stuff for me instead of the map or where the link doesnt work.
I thought they should be bundled first before they being voted for. just my 2 cents

Good points Rakiayn ... I do believe our good Dr.Flay has collected the maps and standardized the archive (using 7zip, which is compatible with WinRAR and other zippers) nice and tidy, just a no fuss download :)

@Dr.FLay, can you make a thread linked to your page containing the list?
That would be a great help :D

EDIT: Oooops - the list is not up to date, it only has the five "on-time" maps ...

Thanks

The problem with using sheets is that ued will leak sometimes. Boxes work better in some situations. You have to make sure that the boxes are nonsolid and don't touch semis and also solids sometimes. It's tricky. With huge terrains (like I have an addiction to making) if you use a sheet you'll end up with lots of zone problems and more than likely whole rooms full of lava. If I make a pool in a normal room or even a 2d shape hole I'll use a sheet, but if there is any chance it will not contain the zone with a sheet I'll use a box. Sometimes though the last build you have to do polygons to brush on the zone that isn't working, then delete the brush (keeping the builder brush that has been transformed to the brush you just deleted), rebuild geometry, readd special and build all.

In this case the box contains all the lava zones, but I had to put extra lavazone infos in parts because some of the box/zone didn't reach other parts that I wanted lava in also (it made all the zones into zones but some were not connected so you would fall in but not be incinerated). But also there are at least 20 "zones" that it created that do not have zone infos (because the terrain is so complex). So I need to go back and make each part that has a lavazoneinfo in it into one zone and delete the huge nonsolid zone box so it can reconfigure zones without the extra ones. (I think)

Right now I am more working on bot pathing and stuff so it will play better.

btw when people play my map is there snow in the sky like there is supposed to be?

Bit of a lag on my part, as I'm away at my brother's for Yule.

Grabbing the others now.
BTW. I would be using RAR, but MyOpera don't like RAR.
I am also using 7zip's standard profile, so the files work fine in WinRAR.

I have added the server details as a clickable link on my page.

Okay, we're in the process of setting up a VOTING POLL, and along with that POLL a single zipfile will be provided
containing the contest maps. This is for voting purposes and will be named accordingly.

An offical mappack will be released AFTER the contest has a WINNER, and this should contain any bugfixes or V2
maps, the idea being the mappack has completed maps of better quality. Hopefully everybody agrees to that.

I would suggest that any mappers who want to fix a few bugs or finish some things in the map they submitted they
should do it now as a V2 - this could make it into the final map-pack...
