Dreamcast files/file format?

Post by AlCapowned »

I've been looking at the Playstation 2 version of UT's files just for curiosity's sake, and I was wondering if anyone knows how similar its files are to the Dreamcast version. Do they both use UMD/LIN files to pack the normal file types (like U, UTX, etc.), or does the Dreamcast version not use anything similar for its files? I have a disc of the Dreamcast version, but no way of getting the files from it to compare it to the PS2 version.

All I know of the dreamcast version is that the music is Redbook Audio, which wastes a *ton* of space on the disc that could of been used for just straight up modules.

I think you might need to get a special CD drive or driver to beable to read off dreamcast CD's, if nothing short of somehow jury rigging a dreamcast to act as a image dumper. I hate how dreamcast games use some weird ass format just to pack more than the usual data in a single data track.

It seems you can trick a normal drive into reading the second TOC.

GDRip (Dreamshell) also looks useful.

It could also be worth seeing if ISObuster can read a disc (it can read Xbox discs)

What you need, is DiscJuggler V6.00.1400

I used that a few years ago to make copies of some dreamcast discs, and burn some dreamcast ISO's i had somehow.
DiscJuggler will burn discs in the wacky format(s) the dreamcast uses. (CDI and NRG files)

It appears it is still out there on the web for download.

Just google "DiscJuggler" and a bunch of links show up.
I did not test any of them out, so I ain't gonna post them here.

Then google up "discjuggler dreamcast settings" to see a bunch of tutorials on
how to setup DiscJuggler to handle the dreamcast formats.

Its a iso file converted to cdi file wich i downloaded from the internet but deamon tools is the only one to extracted them into normal files.
I did download deamon tools but i didnt handle to extracted them.
I didnt iknow there was already a topic on this forum about dreamcast ut 99.
Maby its intresting for the ut99 community to extracted them and maby convret the files for use in ut99 pc version.
I have got a 700 mb cdi file here.
If it is yes i will do some researche on this file!howto extracted this file.
i did some work with isobuster, and i just cant extracted the files to wav and mp3 files.
Isobuster canot find everything so another iso file manager i need to have to extracted evrything.
i did burned the disk but it can only be used on the dreamcast i think there where some audio trax, but windows canot read the disk.
Stay tuned for some more tryouts this disk.

i did manage to extracted the dreamcast ut99.
These files are dated from 2001.There are 2 maps wich you can play into the ut 99 pc version.
For the rest those maps are ficed together into a dat file what containing the maps from the dreamcast version of unreal.
I did manage to listen to the music into a virtual drive created with deamon tools, with mounting options.
And yes indeed if someone wanna use this to convert the maps to pc verion you will have alot todo.
I think that the maps from the dreamcast version is the same the pc version of ut99.
Maby just maby the music will be different then the normal pc version of ut99.
The voices of the caracters of the bots are inplemented as adx files.
i just gonna do more researche about those files also. :gj:
I,m very well pleased i have those files.
I dont know if i can published thjose infoirmatiuon about the dreamcast version of ut 99 because of the copyright law. :tu:
I will stack the files on mine extern harddrive if someone wanna use them please contact me on this forum.
But i also dont know that in the dreamcast versions diferent maps will be used as the pc version.

Maby the aplication that i use deaman tools can maby fix the playstation 2 version also.
It has todo how the files are stacked into the cdrom, and wich template is used to burn the Original disk.

The disk i downloaded from dreramcast ut 99 version is in seperated language version including german also.
I just downloaded and convert some media files, i found a website who can convert adx into mp3.
What i,m seeking right now is the ingame music sound. It wil take a while for searching and convert them to mp3 music files.

I did mount a virtual drive from within deamon tools and no special music is on that dreamcast disk.So no further action from we will start.
I will now end my research all files are extracted from that drive and readable now on a windows 10 x 64 version of mine computer.
If anybody wanna have the files please contact me.Or pm me.

I did take a look at the psx2 version of this game. The tracks are packed as vgm files for the music for this game.
For the rest no special thinks maby the maps are different but i dont think that the music is special.
Awaithing post from unreal gekko.
The unreal psx2 version was packed in a cue iso files wich you can convert from olmost any iso programs like nero or poweriso.
I did extracted the files from that container file and the files was other programmed (packed)then the dreamcast version.

Later on I will need to update that pc to console like list updated, as recently a few more maps have been remade/edited and I am currently working on the CTF-November edit. Heck I will likely post the list here now, since the old one is still on Hook's obsolete forum.

I can open both maps in UnrealEd without problems. What is the error message when you try to open it?
