I've managed to get UT working under WINE, using software renderer. That should work on any computer and any Linux.

I managed to get UT running on Wine using the Direct3D 8 renderer, but I get GUI problems and UTDC crashes my game when I try to play online. Also I tried using a pre-installed UT from my Windows XP boot and I don't get any GUI problems, but I still can't take the game online. Anyone know how to correct these?

Playing UT in Wine is actually better than playing the native Linux client, due to various sound compatibility problems with the Linux client and many newer cards, plus you get to use the newer renderers in Wine.

I play the game in Wine using the newest OpenGL renderer (makes more sense to use that than D3D8/9 since Linux uses OpenGL anyway) and the UnrealTexture high resolution textures, it's damn perfect.

My (freshly installed) game crashes when I try to use OpenGL (in Linux!). Written for Windows or not Direct3D 8 works better. Did you tweak Wine in any way to get rid of the crashing and GUI problems?

I run multiple servers on a Centos box for many years, very stable and we run opengl.

I try running client-side UT on Ubuntu using Wine and the freakin' thing doesn't work right. UTDC always crashes it online and my GUI doesn't work right (can't select stuff, can't change preferences, etc.).

I 've heard that there are some problems with the Linux's seed to run UT.
