it is a very powerful server so I am baffled. Don't tell me there is a bug in the Russian UT version 400 when they connect that forces the server to have a cadenza sometimes :|

Does anyone know if there a way to turn off the minnetspeed on the server so I am not forcing them to go on a number in this case 7000?

Edit: sorry dumb question but my first question about a game bug remains. server runs 451 linux doesnt have any extras on top of that. does not have engine.so updated crash fixes etc, maybe I should look into that. secondly maybe i can modify the death function or something like that. off-forum link http://www.unrealadmin.org/forums/showt ... hp?t=30912 .thoughts please

billybill wrote:OK I want to post an update and conclusion to my necro thread. I believe I have narrowed it down and eliminated it. The bug is the same one Anth posted a fix in 2010 for known as the unreliable-adv-patch. Unfortunately I had no success with the linux patch

This bug is caused by:
- v400 of UT clients
- players using -pktlag commandline

one of these two in combination with the player disconnecting suddenly and the server not expecting or processing it correctly

- (the bug being abused for DDoSS perhaps the main reason the patch exists)

The reasons it is not documented heavily and the bug still exists is a combination of the following:
- all the busiest servers run on windows or if they are linux they don't run v451
- not many servers cater for v400 players or encourage -pktlag commandline

If admins of linux 451 servers do have it fixed, I can't find it documented anywhere. The fix I found comes from another Unreal Engine game called Rune

The fix
link: http://forum.ragezone.com/f328/ipdrv-tc ... gs-717325/
Notably: setting InitialConnectTimeout=45.0 but a lower MaxClientRate and standard tickrate help as well

Note:
Although I haven't seen it in the months since making the changes, and it being an almost everyday occurrence before that. As claimed this isn't a complete fix but it should stop the prolonged packet loss and halting of gameplay that lasted a good 10 seconds before. Feel free to post this around gameservers.com forums and anywhere else that deal in linux 451 servers

EDIT: OK. I'm still seeing this occasionally, it's a pain in the ass because hosts like gameservers.com are hesitant to change binary files, so unless you have a copy to upload they will not provide any support for it. The result may be to downgrade to 436 if you want to support v400 players on linux servers. (or maybe 440 of which the binaries you will never find unless you install the game and upgrade it yourself on linux, a real cop out from gameservers.com on this one)
