UT99.org Community Map Pack Ver.2 [Preparation Thread]

Post by Shade »

Dear Community!
"Lets make the next community mappack"
After the first mappack, which wasnt so much successfull (to less maps, much critism - sorry guys ;)), we have decided to make a second mappack with more (and better) map.

The next mappack will have a higher standard.

To be sure to make the pack really successfull, here the rules:

1. Release Date: 1st November 2008
2. If you want to make a map for it (concept required!), you get access to the mappack developement forum. (Normal users cant see it.)
3. The supervisors are Creavion and niX. They will lead the developement forum and progress.
4. Dont forget to make some screenshots during the development time, so the supervisors can give you tips and critism.
5. Until the last day, the supervisors are able to decide which maps will be a part of the mappack (we hope all will be). So work hard and do your best! :tu:

How to get access: Send your concept (draft/text, 1-3 sentences) to one of the supervisors (PM). If you can join, you get your own thread in the developement forum. There, you can post screenshots and information about your map, and the other mappers/supervisors can give tips and critism.

Supervisors:
* Creavion
* niX

-----------------

If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to post it here.

Regards,
Shade

I liked the Fire and Ice instagib rifles from the 1st mappack. Any chance of making those into a standalone mutator .... maybe even one that gives Ice rifles to the blue team, fire rifles for red?

I can help with bot pathing if anyone has issues.

:ironic2: ... hmm

Only the FOT Packs can kick ass, but the community mappack had maybe an average rating from 3/10 points or so... like I said.. play the FOT Maps, this maps really kick ass. (or at least mostly)

Hmm. FoT maps all have great build quality but not always great gameplay. I really lke whizzing round oggling at all the architecture/lighting but only actually play a handful of them. They often remind me of the UT2003/4 maps, which is good or bad depending on whether you liked that style (I wasn't a big fan :P ).

The simple ut1 geometry is simply out of date, also most of the textures which were delivered with the game. At the moment I like to use textures in this style, Sci-Fi Egypt from UC2, I am happy with this stuff. :tongue:

Yeah... I built those rifles just due the map theme, but I can do another version of them with a playable mutator like you said.

@All:
The last mappack, well, the DM maps were very cool looking, my CTF is intended to play with the RX/SLV/NX, but it seems that only my clan realized that, and the MH was very cool, but it seems that is a copy from something else (for me is new, never played the first Unreal and so).

Well, good luck guys with the 2nd Mappack, I won't participate this time, as I have to develop my mod and do some maps to play with. It seems that this time stuff will be different, in a good way I expect, as that are more people interested to contribute to this mappack, and most of them very good mappers, so let's kickass! :rock:

Actually I suspected it had to be something like that; my first thought was SLV Simply because I haven't played the others yet.

On to other things. I'm a notoriously slow mapper, but I do have a map currently in development. Would you accept a complete remake of a map I released in a previous pack (300k)?

Here's a WIP screen:

What would you like to see? BTW, The dark area is undergoing a bit of an experiment right now and is not representative of the final concept. For that matter, none of the lighting or texturing is final, I'm still concentrating on BSP.
