So much for what should be a pretty high time here what with the mapping contest coming to a close after a few months of great work by a lot of people. Christmas recently passed, the new year but 2 days old...shame on all of us.

If the sites so popular why take it down?

Do you want someone to carry it on? If so happy to do so and take it off your hands.

What about the following conditions?
1 - a host knows exactly how to run a phpbb system
2 - moderators don't use their ability on the boards except if fundamental rules are broken (spam, nudity/porn, warez, private data)
3 - moderators move threads to the right sections (mapping, uscript, skins) if necessary and requested

If mods keep to conditions 2 and 3, the mods do not need to be experts on mapping, scripting or the uengine, simply because they will not interfere. It would certainly be an advantage, but not a requirement, right? Knowing a lot of people from UT is also useful, but again not really necessary if the mod isn't going to to use his/her abilities.

That narrows down the list to people who TheDane considers to be acting as grown-ups. I am sure that several people will volunteer, why not simply let Dane try several people, see how they behave over the weeks, and then decide whether anyone can follow his footsteps?

I agree with Wises, strangely. If the site could be archived and moved to freeforums or something that would be great. We had a similar situation with the closure of servers in Australia. The threads stayed up for years, I've checked now and they're gone :( But it was great they stayed up archived for many years

@Syntax, please read my post again and then your post again thanks

You might be a bit surprised to hear this from me; you are #1 on my list of recommendations. Often you have comments on how things go, so this would be your opportunity to show the right way.

I think we are heading in this direction anyway. I have been reading a bit on why and how the forum came to an end, and I must say that I am not getting very enthusiastic about the reasoning. At this point I would be very happy if all existing content continues to exist (i.e. archived or hosted by somebody else, with the registration/replies locked).

Let's hope that TheDane finds somebody who he sees fit for the job.
We'll see.

So far I'm not presented with anything that makes me sure that particualr board will be continued in it's original intended form. The main problem is that I have left UT and have a very busy life with Things of far greater importance to me, it may sound harsh but it's never the less the truth. So, even Darkelarious suggestions are valid, I am not willing to put aside the time needed to "test" out any candidate as it will have to be on daily basis during a period of at least some months. Everybody can put on a role for a couple of weeks, I will need to see the real person behind the "hammer" in order to find the best candidate that way.

billybill, as much as I've enjoyed all your inputs on the board I cannot put you in charge. The board will be better of locked as it is right now. With JackGriffin (aka Gopostal) and me out of the picture you are pretty much alone on the quest to raise the questions nobody else can master the balls to raise - and that will just leave you defending your statements to an extend where it will be impossible for you to remain neutral - sorry!

And my conditions for the candidate stands. Unrealtournament.info is a Unique board for debates of all kind, therefore the admin in charge needs to at least be able to understand what the members are talking about. I've seen too many discussion here on this board and on other boards ending up beeing locked/deleted/edited, just because the admins/mods fails to understand the topic in details, and then resort to locking because it appears to be nonsence to them. That was why I opened my board in the first place, and if it can't be continued that way then why is there a need for it? You already have my permission to copy/paste all of its contents, and it won't go offline untill August - leaving anyone up for the task plenty of time to copy/paste the entire board?

Ok ...I have enough of this.
Tell me the threads where this happened... where the participants of a discussion did NOT bitch fight or went ape!
And one of the most important things. WE NEVER DELETE THREADS!!
They are out of the public.

LOL! Image

I really don't know much forum that actually delete threads tbh. lol.

Anyway, this whole thread is confusing because of many different topic of talking about something. Even if the mod/admin don't understand just because they aren't knowledged much about UT matter, I can still see that it's going in many direction to talk about something and not on topic. O.o I'm tired atm so maybe I'm in LSD mode...

Tbh, should be locked long time ago. lol.

Sorry, I'm not going to Waste time surfing arround for it, but you misunderstood me. People also had bitch fights at my forums, but the inside knowledge from the staff always managed to calm things down and highlight the topic so the discussion could get back on track. Locking a topic solves nothing, on the contrary it adds to the frustration among the posters. Take this topic, it still gets flagged to be locked by posters - even though it finaly has some relevance? This is the atitude difference between this forum and my foum. This is ofcause just my opinion and you are entitled to your own, but yelling at me or locking the topic won't change how I feel about it.
billybill wrote:TheDane, I nominate Dr. Flay. I hope you give him a fair trial if he is selected. Regards
Flay is on the staff list here and at Hooks place, which in my book makes Flay unable to have no strains attached regarding actions needed to be carried out in heated debates.

But please all, stop nominating and suggesting people, I won't select a new admin to take it over here in public. If you think someone might fit the profile then contact that person and have that person contact me privately. It won't Work unless we both agree on the terms, and there are some Things I simply won't debate here in public. If, and I say IF I find someone that can continue the board and site, then it has to be done right. I gave JackGriffin free hands with the board once we agreed on the point of start and the base concept. I feel that he held back for some reason, maybe because he didn't want to piss me off by dooing something wrong? Can't blame him for that, I have the reputation that I have, but thats not the person I am anymore. So, if I find someone new, we have to agree to the point of beginning, the ground base, but that new person must also have the power to change the board and site just as everything else changes during time. So ask yourself, is it just the content on the board you are affraid of loosing, or is it the board itself?

EDIT:

I was pointed to this thread: http://hooksutplace.freeforums.org/post ... tml#p21106 , abviously Mike there has something to say about me? I find it annoying that someone has to speak about me like he knows exactly how everything is. I can only say I hope it's going to stop soon. I haven't spoken a single bad Word here about Hooks place or Flay, stating that Flay is at the staff list at Hooks place is just a fact? Where did I say it was good or bad? And where does I say it questions Flay ethics? I state the fact that if he took over my board then that fact could at some point put him in a situation where his judgements would be coloured by his role at other communities. I am not going to go through any further drama over this, if it doesn't end soon I'll revise my part in this.

How about we continue that discussion at Hook's, then?
I can already taste the irony when a mod closes this thread for drama/offtopic, in a thread where people provide feedback on different mod-behaviour.

Like I said I prefer archived but then come August it's gone. Here I'll explain why I said Flay. He does have unquestioned loyalty to 333networks, but it is them who have no forum. Where better to start than where it was left off. And Hook's forums and it's troll founder and members can burn in hell for all I care
