Found another one I gotta check out · http://www.viper99.com/
Is that a UT/Unreal forum? I can't tell.

Saw a few members from vipper99 recently registered at HoF forums but they have not posted or said anything. Looks like no recent threads either.

Eh, if they ask nothing, will gain nothing. Last time I recall a thread for requests toward some fixes. Nobody said nothing which means everything works perfect, then must let them enjoy if everything is fine...

I'll tell you that for me personally contracting is by far the most relaxing thing I've done in ages. My server is wide open, everyone gets cheats to use, etc but I don't tolerate any bullshit at all. I peerblocked all the countries that are issues (thank you again Nels, you saved me SO much agony). If someone connects to the game server, FTP server, or web admin and tries a password then they get rangebanned right off. I don't even look them up. Any of my regulars only need to PM me a player name, they don't even need to explain. That player will not even see my server from then on.

Been doing this for a couple of months and it's great. Any time I see someone playing I know they are quality and I can join to a good game. There are almost no issues at all now. Yeah, I sacrificed some player count but that's nothing compared to the relaxing day-to-day operation that's currently running.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

The one and only time this thread, of updates on the status of various forums, does no good whatsoever is when the forum having issues is this one.

ut99.org has crashed, so far, 2 times today... and it ate a long post I had been typing up.

Grrr!

Only other place I've got it is · http://hermskii.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=3604 & http://unreal-games.livejournal.com/tag/forums · which I don't handle the same way. On my UT livejournal community that's just handy for me... and Hermskii's forum one doesn't let you update the original post which makes finding new forums impossible to add without admin assistance.

which is precisely why no one posts/goes there any more. You can't rule with such an iron fist.

Truth to tell, Hermskii doesn't want it like that... he just can't figure out how to fix it.

Herm uses an outdated version of the forum software anyway. He should just fully update and then he could fix it. If it broke some feature in the forum then so what? It's not like it'll stop people from posting. I really like Herm too, I wish his site saw more use.

Herm updated the forum software not so long ago. I believe it is newer than ours.
The ability to re-edit posts is something you have to enable, and can have a time limit.
Here we are brave/foolhardy and allow you to re-edit forever.

I can advise Herm on making the change if it is something he wants.
Unless you are in the back end of the forum regularly, you forget where everything is.
It took me ages to find the section where I added the useful links at the bottom of the site.

I hadn't visited his site in a while. Looks like he did finally upgrade:
Hermskii wrote:So look. here is what really happened. the software for the forum was on version 3.0.12 and needed to be on 3.1.6.

As near as I can tell, I was 8 version upgrades behind. (Not secure at all)
I did the upgrade and this is what it looked like when it finished.
I guess my old theme isn't compatible with this new version so it is time for a new theme.
Maybe an old dog CAN learn a new trick :D I hope he fixes the edit post, that would bring a lot of people back.

I just had a quick chat with Herm.
The forum editing settings are set specifically that way, due to incidents in the past.
Times have moved on and Herm is happy to review the situation later (after work).

I posted in his forum and that's the last I'll mention of it there. His place, his rules and all. The bottom line is Meat did him wrong but it was Herm that gave him special permissions. For sure don't punish everyone because you made a mistake. Well, you can but people will just stop visiting when you remove commonly accepted rights across boards.

Nelsona is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. His threads about the back end of the engine and his monsterhunt contained some SERIOUSLY important nuggets of information. Most of you guys don't know how cutting edge it really is. When he makes a new discovery or figures something out even better he can't amend any of his posts to include that. No wonder he stopped logging his development.

Why post a release at Herm's place too? I can't update the initial post with a better version or fix without a hassle. There's a reason UT99.org is the go-to place concerning UT: they understand and get all this correct. As a developer and releaser of content I feel supported and so I post my things here.

There are "slow-down"s even for different reasons not only editing problem. (at a moment some dude was removing his dumb posts making the rest of replies to look as stupid spam) - in that time editing rules have been changed...
Example Topic - "Off-Topic" very roamed. Let me see, If I want NON-UT things I look for them in NON-UT places, right ?
Question about doing an UT specific thing, less or no debates figured. Perhaps everything is suddenly great and then there is not a need for any debate. Discussion with XC: "Worth a try ?" What ? After all these years of painful crashes, 2 days for tests doesn't worth a small debate ? Okay... nvm.
MonsterHunt chapter ? - Well, there when I have started to talk about doable things in MH I really could not figure much MH activity in Here, in fact I could see here a small "against MH" activity. Some MH related posts are just spam with no Information, and then the rest of posts posted, boring...
"MH release date"
Is this relevant ? If yes, check out Shrimp's site blog type (I found it with G00gle) + umod package with files have a time-stamp after all. Happy now ? Good... Does this fix any bugs ? Yes ? Okay, enjoy!
The rest of techs there doesn't look like they have readers and/or participants. "Alone-in-street" feelings are not very cute...

For more relevance I don't see any MH Separate Section HERE as being a non-stock thing as SDK and such, and it was (and maybe still is) game Number 4 in servers lists. At a moment was DM - CTF - DOM - MH - AS. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Aside, I see Barbie working at some MH, but posts are very spread as long as MH has no Valid support - A deserved DEDICATED SECTION for that developed thing which was GAME NUMBER 4 (and maybe still is).

I would have to agree that popular non default gametypes such as MonsterHunt and Siege should have there own sections. :highfive:
