MH-KillThemAll[EG] - Too reflective

Post by EvilGrins »

Working on an edit of a map with too many textures. Trying to simplify it room by room but overall the map has been made overly reflective on the floors.

I'd like to lessen this but don't know how.

Show us a quick screen shot out of the editor ...I think this is only the typical mirror effect with a translucent sheet over it.
Or am I wrong?

btw ...wth is this wall texture? If I would try to play in such a map I would get a seizure disorder.
Who made this map and why?? Did the mapper try to kill someone with this?

It's called boxmaps.... horrible

This is a surface that has the mirror + transparency flags set on. You can either turn it off and don't have those reflections. Sheets don't seem to work to camouflage it btw, they only increase the lightness with transparency (they are layering).
Looking at the screenshot it looks like this isn't a map with lots of textures, but a box with horrible textures.

Btw the sheets button is right of the box brush button (you cant miss it :noidea ) and then click the blue square "add special brush": non-solid + transparent.

This map has horrid wall/ceiling textures, each room worse than the last · http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?p=42672#p42672

It's another map by that [SPG] guy, can't remember his name.
Image
Oh, that's his site on the wall there but it was apparently taken down a long time ago.

As to why... why do any of us make maps?

MH-KillThemAll[EG] - Too reflective

On the positive, I might have my computer back this weekend. After getting used to the new OS (been told I'll have Win10) I'm gonna start finishing all edits I've currently got going; maps & skins.

As to maps, finally gonna polish this off:
Image
After I finally remove the horrible graphics and finalize all monster selections (mostly done but there's some swaps I wanna do) gonna submit it for anyone good with bot-pathing to path it up. FerBotz (furry bots) is great and all but even it needs a little something to work with.

Current monster selections:

UK-BadBoy will not be on the final map, just find this redeemer handy for clearing rooms while I'm testing areas.

MH-KillThemAll[EG] - Too reflective

Post by EvilGrins »

Due to much insistence from Sektor to discuss this in someone else's thread... I'm bringing this old thread outta mothballs!
sektor2111 wrote:Nope, I'm talking about WoodenBoxes which needs 4000 damage to get broken. The other problem doesn't seems nasty, While GalticLaunchers are there I clean and entire row in a few seconds. Only servers have issues if player is dropped out and their projectiles are still hitting monsters...
I removed those, replaced with the NyanCat-deemer...

Y'know, this thing · viewtopic.php?f=34&t=4800&

Plus the map has instagibs on it, takes those Woodboxes in a few shots.

Of course, the downside of updating this thread means I probably need to finish that edit now. Haven't touched or played it in years.

Le sigh...

I guess the bottom line is that mappers make the maps they want. The word "fix" is relative only to thinking something is broken.

Map doesn't really need fixing. It plays fine for players, but I'm a pro-bot kinda guy and think as UT has one of the finest A.I. setups of it's time (and as far as I know even up to today) then it NEEDS to be used.

Only fix this map needs is the not so pretty textures on the walls. Especially in the 2nd to last room which had the mapper's website on it... as that site doesn't exist anymore.

Not really our place to mess with it without permission. Maybe just making a new map of your own would be best.

Oh, I've got permission. One of my success stories in tracking down an old mapper, I posted about wanting to edit one of his maps a few years ago on DU... and a few months later he responded, we chatted, and he gave me carte blanch to edit any map of his I wanted.

I didn't know that and shouldn't have assumed you hadn't. Sorry.

However, I maintain that with all of your ideas and creative energy, you should start making maps Grins.

Somewhere down the line I'd like to, but I honestly never have the time.

Hell, the map this thread's about? I've been barely editing little bits of it for 4 years now!

You should edit the map, easy one, just change the textures, and some surface properties. Maybe a few light adjustments. I played this map, it's like one of those old typical spam pawns mode maps, but it's not too bad in the larger scheme of, all things MH.
I think a texture edit is needed for this thing, same map, but look different :D
