I suggest this thread may be better placed in the "Development School" section.

New video is online:
- Recommended height for stairs
- Suggested doorway height and width
- Player jump height
- Player's height in game
- Suggested Mover width
@der Kas, @Pileyrei : to make these videos, I just did a plain vanilla install of UT GOTY Edition, which I purchased from https://www.gog.com/game/unreal_tournament_goty
Absolutely no changes to my config or ini file. I'm running Windows 7. I have 16 GB RAM, and a GeForce GTX 960 video card.

@ Dr. Flay: I'd prefer to keep the thread in the Mapping Forum, more traffic.

Re: UnrealEd 2.0 Video Tutorial now on YouTube
I really like your calm style of instructing. A new mapper would definitely feel comfortable watching the videos! Im surprised that you introduced brush clipping before the 2D shape editor since your example ramp could be easily made with it as well. Maybe its the fact that Ive never come to really get the hang of it and prefer vertex editing nowadays. Im also surprised that you didnt introduce the alignment tool so you could adjust the walls of the round hallways horizontally. Or do you consider this an advanced technique?
Will you also make a video maybe at the end of your series about alternative ways of doing things? For example, when rotating I like to use the method without the rotation tool: pressing ctrl + the right mouse button and moving it in the corresponding side view you want to rotate the brush in (usually in top view, to rotate the Yaw). Also, for aligning textures I personally like to do it in the surface properties browser, because then you can minimize the clicks needed if you change the texture size, for example, or if you have to align more stuff at once.
Anyway, really nice work! Especially your most recent video about sizes couldve helped me a lot back in my noobie days (though, I still sometimes think in extreme sizes, both small and big )!

What alignment tool? The "Texture pan" and "Texture rotate" buttons in the left toolbar? I never use them, to be honest. I always right-click on a surface and go to Properties and do my texture adjustments there.editor Dave wrote:I'm also surprised that you didn't introduce the alignment tool so you could adjust the walls of the round hallways horizontally. I'll be doing a tutorial on Textures in the future; I have a long to-do list.

Re: UnrealEd 2.0 Video Tutorial now on YouTube
Its good to know you are still motivated for a lot more to come!
Yeah, I mean those two buttons. I need them almost every time I map because I want my walls to be aligned exactly; and in that case, at least in my experience, I found the manual moving of a texture more efficient than using the texture properties (with the limited options of 1, 16 and so on). And well, if you intend to do something like this, youve got to get used to rotating textures manually, too But this all comes down to personal preference, of course.

Re: UnrealEd 2.0 Video Tutorial now on YouTube
I have now watched all the available tutorial and tried to build some ugly cubes myself
Thought it was harder
The videos are clear, gj on that!
But one thing pisses me off: the movers! Wtf, why it looks so counterintuitive to set up them? I have to click first Key 1 than Key 0 Base, sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it's the opposite and lift starts above (lol), etc.
Of course, waiting for more!

Re: UnrealEd 2.0 Video Tutorial now on YouTube
I agree, when I first used the Unreal Editor, Movers were counter-intuitive. And, the red brush is still on top of the Mover brush, so I didn't know you had to move the red brush away in order to see the purple brush.der Kas wrote:But one thing pisses me off: the movers! Just keep this in mind: When you click on the Add Mover brush button, that purple brush will be at Key 0, which is the base. It's the resting position. That's why you're clicking Movers > Key 1. That tells the Mover to go the next location. Once you've moved the purple brush to the new location, then click Movers > Key 0. If you did it right, the purple brush will return to the resting position.
That's only 2 NumKeys (0 and 1). You can add more NumKeys, if you want the purple brush to move to other spots. Example:
Key 0 (base)
Key 1
Key 2
That would be 3 NumKeys, and the Mover would go from 0 to 1 to 2 to 1 to 0.

Thank you! This is extremely timely - I was in need of some bot-pathing assistance, and this is just what I was after.
