Yes, I get this is a new thing and we should strive not to abuse it.
But it's hard not to mess with new stuff sometimes.
I mean, really, something like this is extremely fun to mess with.
- =WAIT... WHAT'S HAPPENING?=
And I oftimes feel I do not flex my creative muscles enough.
Take it from me, there's only so much silly one can employ in such matters.
Besides, I wouldn't be me if I didn't play with this a bit.
- =WHY IS HE DOING THIS?!?=
On a side note, I wrote this all at once, these are NOT separate posts that've been merged.

The default wasn't even BBCode
{L_MERGE_SEPARATOR}
<=what is this?.
It's calling a function in the code of the merger. That's all I got out of this.
It is placeholder for replace later in themes/styles. So here you can use any HTML code and not limit self with BBCode.

So we did it.
You can only delete the merger indicator but you shouldn't be able to recolour it very much.
it looks like this now.
not much BBCode left.

Okay, let's just test that then...
...and now I'm waiting as there's a time delay until i can send the 2nd ½.
I guess you can't change the color anymore.
