I've been working on some things to play with on my coop server and Bob suggested this.
What it is and does:
The goCostume is an actor placed in a map that lets a player touch it and assume the mesh and skin assigned to the goCostume pickup. This will remain persistent across coop server travel as long as the pickup remains in the players inventory. Think of it as a true costume. It's not 'real' in the sense that you were changed as a player. This is strictly a visual thing. The costume can be turned off at any time by the player and their normal settings will return.
What it does NOT do:
Make any changes to the player's ini files. All costume changes are handled in the pickup and do NOT make changes. Player voice and sound settings are not changed since this is a visual costume.
Demo:
uuq_hxSXtXA
I have all the default models done and I'm going to make a bunch of blank costume pickups so mappers can place their own. I made this with the idea of something unique and fun but I can see where someone could specifically map with this pickup in mind so that a player could "TF2 Spy" their way into the enemy base.
Hahaha, it just hit me....you could put this into a CTF game and watch pure chaos ensue....
Anyway I'll have this done and posted in a couple of days. It's made for Unreal but it will be UT compatible.

Re: goCostume
Ok ...how can I get this UT like menu in Unreal?
Dr.Flay mentioned it somewhere... but ...but ...I can't remember where I'm getting old.

Re: goCostume
You need to edit the console device to
Console=UMenu.UnrealConsole
or use the advanced options window

I can definitely see potential with this mod and creative mapping

Hi Kelly, nice actor !
it's really a pity that you don't develop anymore for UT99...I'm waiting for your return

Re: goCostume
I built more on this last night. Instead of forcing models with the mod I made pickups for all the default playerpawn models. You can place them then change the skin in editor to whatever floats your boat. I also made 6 different blank container classes, allowing you to place the actor and then declare both model and skin in the properties. This keeps the mod small and having no dependencies.

I need to fully test this but right now I think it's done.

Re: goCostume
Just wtf with the bug yo. I'll smack you lol...
Btw you gonna release this in public? I'd think I would like to give it a try setting it up for UT99.

Send me an email and I'll send you the mod to test out. I'd like some feedback if you want to play with it some.

Re: goCostume
Just an update on this...I did a quick compile and test under UT and it doesn't work right. Part of this is due to UT using a tournamentpickup but it needs some other changes in the way it assigns the temporary mesh and skin. I built this to work in Unreal and it does just fine so I'm not really concerned if it can function in UT or not. If someone wants the source code to this to craft a UT version I'm happy to send it to them. You can make your own version and call it anything you want, I don't care if you keep the goCostume name or not.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

Re: goCostume
BUMP!
Has anybody taken Jack up on his offer to provide this source for tweaking into a UT version?
If not, they should.
(If nobody does, I will add it too my list.....
)
I tested it out a few times on Jacks 227 server, and it works great.
You can pick a skin in the portal map, and you have that skin working
on any map the server switches to. Very nice work.

Re: goCostume
That bug was pretty cool. Is it a monsterclass or playerpawn, originally?
I recognized the WarlordPlayerModel (got that in UT, tried to skin it with no luck) & the Thug model & Dr. Freak.
Looks good.
