Enslaved for UT

Post by EvilGrins »

Here · http://www.unrealsp.org/viewtopic.php?p=72632#p72632

Sounds like an SP (not surprising considering which forum it's on) but it sounds amazing. There's a couple different uploads there, went up today, as the mapper left a file out of his initial link.

Haven't tried it yet.

The enclosured file InfAdds.u has another size than the file installed on my computer :-(

Enslaved InfAdds.u : 555,1kb
My InfAdds.u : 551,4kb

When I overwrite it other maps probably not work anymore (and with my InfAdds.u version the map won't start)...

Anytime I get a file conflict from something new, I always default to the one I already have.

Don't copy over it, the one already on your system will probably work just fine.

It does not work, I have tested it already.
With my InfAdds.u the Map can not be started.

Copy your version to a different directory and then test to see if this other version lets the map work.

I already have the larger InfAdds.u that comes with Enslaved and haven't noticed any problems with other maps - I would keep the version you have in another directory just in case but normally use the one with Enslaved.

There is another file mismatch though - the RParticles.u with Enslaved is smaller than the one I already have - that shouldn't cause a problem with running that map.

BUT people shouldn't be producing different versions of commonly used files that have been around for ages and thereby adding to the likelihood of file mismatches!

@EvilGrins - No it won't work with that - that's an old device! It works fine with D3D9 renderer or you can try the OpenGL renderer (which this map also works with though, on my setup, the D3D9 is better).

12 MB for a few textures:

And some of them are really big sized (1024²).
Wiki wrote:While the Unreal engine supports Textures up to sizes beyond 256x256, some (older) video hardware can't go higher than that. In order to accommodate that, the engine then simply selects the largest MipMap the hardware can handle and displays that instead. So, feel free to use large textures, but if you do, always create MipMaps for them.

InfAdds is a part of Infiltration.
Use the newest version you have, or the version that matches your Infiltration files.
If a mapper uses old obsolete resources for no reason...
slap them, and tell them to update :wth:

Same for players that don't update their decrepit renderers

Any ideas on how to deal with all those Skaarj Warriors (there seemed to be twenty or more) in the central area when one is armed only with an automag and a stinger?

You can go into the tower, there is a platform with sniper weapon and you can shoot them from there.

I have the problem that I don't know what to do to open this door (button does not work),
also there are 29 monsters left and I can't find them...

I had two issues in the map.
There is a big invisible wall (bug?) on the one tower platform. I have to go round on the right side.
And on top of the tower after fighting the warlod the teleporter isn't active when you press the button. So you have to suicide, I can't go down elsewhere.

@Aldebaran - thanks for that, I think I approached that area from the wrong direction.

Yes, there are quite a few invisible 'walls' and other bugs - it's a bit disconcerting to find one in the first room really, the one with the automag and armor - if you read through the download thread on UnrealSP.org (posted by EG at the top of this thread) you will see one lengthy review which points out the problems with the map. It may also help you with how to progress from where you got to.

@EG - no, not really - given the kind of map it is I thought it likely that there must be a way to avoid getting killed over and over and having to start again, since it doesn't appear possible to save progress in the map in UT?

Oh ye of little faith.

Long time back, for a single-player stargate mappack for UT I was exploring, I shared that I've got a Single-Player gametype (picked up from somewhere or other awhile ago) that I can play maps like this one, so long as I rename the map to have "SP-" at the beginning of it... which means I can load up UT-mutators into a SP map.

Like ammo & health regenerators, for example.

Can you imagine playing this map with Nali Weapons 3?
