Well.
All those custom tile textures were converted usin' Infraview. Removed the glitchy textures and converted 'em again, usin' the build in 8bit depth stuff isntead of manually givin' it the 256 value.
All works fine now.

Re: DM-CMC-Letitia [Chaos Mapping Contest '17]
Ok, cool.
I advice anyone however to use Bright to do any image conversions to be used as textures in UT, specially since it was developed by Epic itself specifically to generate pcx files to be imported into UT and Unreal, so any files generated by it are sure to fully work regardless of the Unreal or UT version, and unlike most programs, it retains pretty much full quality (at least humanly perceivable quality, which is the whole point).
The only thing it might stir people away from using it is that it's a command line utility rather than a normal program with an actual UI like others, but it's very simple to use.
I am not sure if there's already a tutorial around for it, but I might do one if there isn't.

Except plonker cases like this (it's from some MH map):nogardilaref wrote:, so any files generated by it are sure to fully work regardless of the Unreal or UT version, and unlike most programs
Which I see in some maps because these have nothing in common with UT and which I have properly conformed to UT. I don't think is a good idea to make textures for UT with U227. When render will crash don't ask why.UT.log wrote:Code: Select all

Well.
It's 'bout ~25% finished.
I had to throw away my first concept since it was too grand.
First time runnin' in UT.

Yeah, the corona looks nice, and thus far there's some atmosphere already to the map from that screenshot alone, although papercoffee's post could be indeed interpreted both ways.

Most of my maps are night time or in space ...and the only one with a bright sun (DM-GangWar-Kairo) was too bright to use a corona.

Don't mix up a Corona to a Lens Flare
I'd say look at Revelation's DM-1on1-Angeldust and look at the sun there from multiple angles...
At least I think it's that map....

Re: DM-CMC-Letitia [Chaos Mapping Contest '17]
Night time and space are the exact kind of maps where you would want to use coronas the most. They make lights look like actual light sources rather than just look they're being lit by some other mysterious light source you're unable to see.papercoffee wrote: Most of my maps are night time or in space ...and the only one with a bright sun (DM-GangWar-Kairo) was too bright to use a corona.
Although the native UT ones have all sorts of problems (sometimes to do not work, have a stupid limit of about being able to render around 6 of them at the same time iirc, etc, etc), that's why I am using another kind in my own map, in which I can virtually use an unlimited number of them.
Having that said, too many coronas in view are also bad, even if they are fast to render, in terms of actual gameplay, since they may start to get in the way and be visual annoyances, and sometimes just getting the right balance, sizes and positioning is very hard.

But you won't see lens flare or coronas with your naked eye. Just because Hollywood upraised it as stylistic device (because they couldn't get rid of that flaresnogardilaref wrote:Night time and space are the exact kind of maps where you would want to use coronas the most. And that's also a good reason to avoid them ...if you don't have better solutions.nogardilaref wrote:Although the native UT ones have all sorts of problems (sometimes to do not work, have a stupid limit of about being able to render around 6 of them at the same time iirc, etc, etc), that's why I am using another kind in my own map, in which I can virtually use an unlimited number of them.

Should I delete 'em coronas?
I just love to use 'em, and there will be a sh1tload scattered 'round. You'll see. I don't wan to spoila that. But it will look cool I think.
