We all like winning a competition, right? I'm ALMOST finished improving my 2016 W00T map but there's room in it for FOUR 2:1 adverts/posters for 2 different aspects within the map: 1 for each of the 2 teleportation halls in the map, and 2 for the 20th birthday of the UT99 game itself (1 to go in each of the teleportation halls).
Basically there will be 2 parts to this competition. Images must be (W)4096px by (H)2048px and do NOT up-scale from a lower resolution.
1). Create animated textures (filename_a00 etc) or regular textures. Design 2 different designs in a 2:1 (HORIZONTAL) ratio which both adeptly, respectfully and maturely commemorate Unreal Tournament's 20th birthday, using MINIMAL text that both feature only recognised official UT99 characters, (no recognisable/unrelated scenery, maps or games, but UT99-specific weapons are ok]). These two 2:1 pieces should be themed in the same style as each other but different to #2 (whichever style you go with). Theme/colour these to EITHER the spawn halls or the main bases. Think: Movie posters!
2). Create animated textures (filename_a00 etc) or regular textures. Design 2 different designs in a 2:1 (HORIZONTAL) ratio which both 'advertise' (being sure to stick to the visual colour scheme and over-all theme of the teleportation stations themselves in my map) a fictional Liandri International Mining Interstellar Teleportation Service: (L.I.M.I.T.S) station/depot somewhere on earth after the year 2291. Think of the place as a corporately owned major transport hub. It's an industrial-scale operation, launching UT99 characters skyward (toward and beyond the stars) through Liandri's specialist teleportation service. These two pieces should be themed in the same style as each other but different to #1 (whichever style you go with). Theme these to EITHER the spawn halls or the main bases, but they must be different to the theme you gave to the 1st part of this competition. Think: Corporate Travel posters!
The competition is open to amateurs and professionals alike, so get cracking if you want to get your work featured in the map. The winner (assuming enough of you have entered!), will have their work used in the final map and credited within it too.
If you want to see the map, to help you get an idea of what the map looks like, I've attached some screenshots below in this post, but also here's the map in its current state (it's still WIP!), for you to run about in. If you wish to enter the competition, I advise you to run about in it so you can get a feel for its colours, lighting, layout, design and over-all theme and style. You'll need a fairly modern rig to play it, it's pretty graphically (and thus CPU-dependent) intensive, so no 'reports' of "Hey, it lags!", ok? Just adjust your UT99 graphics settings a little if you have to. Though it'll run pretty sweet on a new 2018 PC, I'm sure.
Closing date for entries is August 10th 2018. Send the files (preferably .tga, .bmp or .png but only use .jpg files for a PREVIEW image), via link to me here in a PM being sure to .zip the files along with any notes you may have. Entries which do not adhere to the brief will be automatically excluded. I'm happy to answer any questions you have if there's something you don't understand or if you need help. The winner will be announced here shortly after the 10th of August 2018 (UK time, BST), via PM, so stay tuned if you enter the competition to see if you have won!
Good luck, get entering!
Pictures below! Enjoy!
#1. Entering the L.I.M.I.T.S teleportation hall immediately after spawning.
Your art will go on the blank rectangular wall sections left & right, see?
#2. Approaching the teleportation device.
#3. White coloured effects appear to show it's recognised your presence.
#4. Red coloured effects appear to show you it's ready to accept you and/or those wishing to be teleported.
#5. Arrival in the map! You just travelled 30 miles up into Earth's orbit in under a second and bam, you've arrived!
#6. Game on!
