I did not forgot your real name - Kelly said it multiple times, so I don't know it from G00gle or whatever, just from my head...
You are an UT guy and then I don't forget people involved...

Re: Epic games releases...spyware?
Sorry to say this ...but Windows 10 IS SPYWARE... or should I say surveillanceware
It has a keylogger implemented (you can't disable it just disagree)
It watches your movements. Webcam anyone?
It listen to your voice ...hey it could be you want to ask Cortana something.
It makes cloud backups from your system and folders. Hey... cloud ...you know, that safest place in the internet. Nothing bad happened every with CLOUD.
It uses GPS ... ok that one is old news.
You have to disable so many things on a core level and even then can't you be sure that you disabled everything... and the stressed/overworked/underpaid average Joe doesn't have the time and energy left to understand or even manage his system that way.
They just want that it works and show them movies/porn/games/"news"/"friends".

Re: Epic games releases...spyware?
But that's the thing: was Epic doing anything like that?JackGriffin wrote: Ask yourself: If I ran a server that accessed and copied your saved ini passwords and you caught me doing it, would it matter what my excuse was? Would it matter at all if I said "Oh yeah, that's my fault. I put that in there and just forgot to take it out. My bad, I'll fix it now (that you know about it)."
Is there any evidence that you have that they were sending that kind of sensitive data to their or other servers, or is that just a baseless assumption?
Isn't that an unfair representation of what they are actually doing?
Because that sort of thing is fairly easy to pick up, and the tools for it are freely available.
What really matters in the end is not what they "read" in your system, is what they "send" to be stored elsewhere.
At most, accessing something that they have no good reason to access could result in some red flags for you to look into, as indicators of what they "might" be doing out of line, but other than that, unless someone shows that they are really sending sensitive data away, it's all paranoid conjecture in my opinion, with no proof.
Therefore, allow me to turn that around: if I all of a sudden accused you of doing shady stuff just by the act of you reading my User.ini file, when maybe you have a very good reason to do so that in no way violates my privacy in the end, how would you react?
Do you think it would be fair for you to be accused of a shady practice, and be potentially labeled for life as such, or would you prefer if I actually looked in what is actually being done and hear you out?
And if you have already a good explanation, should I take it as a pre-defined response for damage control as you defined it, or the actual explanation?
Why is everything assumed to be a conspiracy and calculated?
Because it sounds like nowadays anything a company does is about this big conspiracy for a new world order, without the people actually having the slightest understanding of what's really going on, when ironically each website you visit is probably taking more personal data from you than these launchers and games.
So they have the new UT with almost zero chance of generating any revenue, and another game which is a global hit and which generates enough revenue to even give it away (which they do).... yeah... "choice"...JackGriffin wrote: I love Epic, I love the entire Unreal universe. They've sold out completely though. Enjoy that thought while you know that Unreal Tournament will never get finished because they chose to do this instead:Spoiler
If Fortnite didn't introduce the BR mode, it would have suffered the same fate as Paragon, because they were already running out of budget and time to keep the project going, and there wasn't that much interest in the PvE mode, therefore if they invested into UT instead, then they would have pretty much no flagship title at all and would have failed completely as a game studio back then, again, and would need to keep investing in the engine alone, which is what kept them going as a company, more than the games themselves.
People have to remember that companies have to make money, otherwise they may cease to exist, or at least struggle to make larger and riskier investments, and that doesn't implicitly make them evil.

Maybe we should all admit that we don't know with certainty and that smarter folks - or those with the relevant skill set - will look into this deeper now that it's a Big Thing.
Game on, boys and girls.

And that can't happen with me because I am not using google, I'm shielded off like fuck, whenever I am in a graphical mode I am behind a proxy (which is not now), yet tards complain about double posting.
I'm fucking behind Jack on this one...no don't interpret it *that way*..
You guys don't even know how those devices you use operate, you just happily consume like no tomorrow.
But yes they made it increasingly harder to actually control what you do, there are chips in new hardwares that track shit down, better not buy into that crap because indeed it's turning 1984.
EDIT: WHy didn't you fucking ditch Google you conformist cowards, when the entire PRISM stuff was revealed. No you kept happily using it and allowing Google to take over more search engines, destroy their market, limit and CENSOR search results to sites like 8chan with spurious acussations or to textfiles.com. No matches will appear from those sites whatsoever.

So, it didn't take a month. Instead it's just eight days later...
and an extended but thorough explanation:

This might do it for me. I can't support such behavior by a company. This is why I don't have a Facebook, Twitter, or Insta.

Re: Epic games releases...spyware?
Im thinking for a very long time (since ut gets stopped right now, and gaining millions, not any bit even to invest for ut contracting external people to finalize what they begun) the big problem is I see or it seems like Tim (despite he owns the 51% of the company -epic-) does not/is not in charge anymore in that company -but outside in the scene he seems like the CEO at epic only apparentely- instead is Tencent (that owns the another 49%) managing Epic in the shadow, hence this is a worrying new, tencent is chinese wtf are doing them here?
I stopped supporting the new ut cos things like this, sad. In spanish there is a phrase that says: "Tu antes molabas" which means to be translated in english like: "You were once so cool", now you are not cool anymore.

You may well be right but, personally, I don't find the video (or, more particularly, the graphic) very convincing; because the graphic is blurred and I can't see what the processes, etc are and because, in order to demonstrate that the behaviour 'shown' is abnormal and suspicious, one would need to compare it with the activity of a similar, 'normal' program.JackGriffin wrote: This might do it for me. Going through the registry ...is what programs always do.
Implementing scripts in the background ...is what programs always do.
Did you know that there is a secrete message hidden in the Bible?
The Hebrews put it in there ...yes, they foreseen all the translations and different interpretations... you just have to find the right pattern and then you'll read the hidden message about God or the Holy Grail... or what Jesus looked like in reality.
No there is no hidden message. But if you look long enough for a connection some day you find one ...because you want to find it.
Btw ...astroturfing doesn't only work for lobbyists and politicians.
Just saying.

If you are talking to me, the answer is ... EPIC is Evil and want to kill us all through our Fortnite accounts.

I got it. Thank you, Sir, for clarification. First time I thought is about those "//fix me" things left everywhere but without to say who is in charge to do those "fixes" - I mean to ruin everything for breaking backward compatibility.papercoffee wrote:EPIC is Evil and want to kill us...

Re: Epic games releases...spyware?
Docs like that might have more weight if not written in caps and full of expletives like some raving conspiracy nutbar. The video is equally incredible: two guys whose starting point is....the same wacky graphic. Who are these guys? Who wrote the doc? What are their credentials? Some obscure channel with 200 subscribers does not make me believe anything. Extrapolation, speculation and assumption. One guy reading the doc, the other guy 'backing it up' with speculation...so again, nobody knows anything and these two guys are just trying - like every other no-name, lazy truth-seeker these days - to get hits on their channel.JackGriffin wrote:So, it didn't take a month. No thanks. When a credible journalist gets on it, I'll bite but until then 2 people jabbering on about a baseless document? Please.
Privacy is an illusion and no matter where you point your crosshairs, you're going to hit something. Why? Because that's the way the internet has evolved and sadly, many of us recall a time when it wasn't like that and naturally are having a hard time wrapping our heads around the fact that it has been taken away from us and given back to governments and big business. It's all free because we are the product. This is no secret and anyone on the net who believes otherwise - and everything implied by that belief - is just deluded.
Having said that, it still doesn't condemn Epic nor the program in question to the degree portrayed. These guys are nobodys and again without actual, credible journalistic research, it's just hearsay. It's good that people want to fight back, but it's a fools errand: if you want privacy and truly don't want to be part of the game, then stay off the net entirely, get rid of your phone, cut up your credit cards, wear a mask in public and have no friends who do otherwise.
Wake up people. There's no free lunch. You're not wrong that it's all working against you, but spare me the 'good fight' nonsense: even your rebellion is being sold back to you. Those guys make money from the video, as does YouTube. Lock your doors and windows and then realize you chose to live outside. lol @ the rebellion.

Re: Epic games releases...spyware?
More of the same, I'm afraid. Everyone knows everything these days, yet it's nonsense from the start and gets propagated without due diligence. Claiming "journalists are hacks" demonstrates the same kind of broad, demonstrably untrue belief system that makes this story incredible. Hyperbole doesn't do either side any good. We desire things that we see as truths and can be applied easily (thanks to bias, affective filters, etc) , but unfortunately life nor this world are like that. It takes work to know things with certainty and people are lazy; they want to be fed, not learn how to grow their own food.Higor wrote:Welcome to [the current year].Carbon wrote:credible journalist

What I'm claiming that because it's so painfully true that these guys are far from what we need to really 'know' something in this situation, we should keep our Epic knickers untwisted.
