From the original movie, to the other movie, to 1 TV series to several TV movies, to the recent BBC series and the upcoming American series...

...which version of War of the Worlds did you like best and why?

Recent BBC version:

Upcoming American version:

I like the BBC version more from what I see in the trailer.

I'm reserving judgement until I see the 2 most recent series, though I saw the hour and a half 1st episode of the BBC one already.

I kinda like the Tom Cruise one from 2005 the most so far, though the TV series was kinda cool as it was an extension of the original movie.

Granted, the 1st movie had no tripods in it, special effects in 1953 were limited, but that old film will always remain the best...

part 1 must come i thought Thursday on fox.
I,m a big fan of the movie, it was a litle bit freaky and scary but it was a good movie.
I hope that these series are made well with alot of special effects.
The movie with tom cruise was the best imo.

I had to look into this as it is not available in the UK BBC site :pfff:
It is based on the original book and set in Edwardian England.
Filming was completed last year but they delayed release due to needing more time to do effects.

Just to cause more confusion there is another War of the Worlds series !

Maybe not my fave version but I do like the dubstep version of War of the Worlds

Definitely my fave because it includes previously unheard speech from the original actors in the Jeff Wayne version

I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid - I read the book and had WotW comics, so this movie seemed wrong to me. I thought they'd wrecked the story...
Those martian "ships" were also used in another movie "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" which iirc had Batman in it... :P Not sure which movie came first...
So these martians have the red "fire" beam for roasting targets but ALSO have green disintegrator beams for vaporising stuff. Wayyy overkill. Smart invaders would just use the green beams (I guess these bad guys liked watching the humans run around screaming on fire) "Better tell Washington! The Air force will take care of these babies!"
Actually they did have newsreel footage of the experimental XB-49 "Flying Wing" bomber - I thought that was cool...

I prefer the tom cruise version ...

There's also a little known version that came out on SyFy:

Parts 1 & 2.

WotW 2005 could have been the best, but Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning's annoying overacting totally ruined the movie.

A lot of comic series also did bits on the War of the Worlds, and given the actual story was set at turn of the century from the 19th to the 20th... that led it open for an excursion with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Mr. Hyde, as most of the team, were far crueler than the movie presented in the original comics. For one thing, he tended to eat his enemies.

Well i,m folowing the american tv serie.
And i must say that those dog-like robots look very strange.
I just did not see the walking verhicles those extra terestrial uses til so far.
But the plotline looks good and the caracters also.
