How old were you when Unreal Tournament came out?

24 or 25.I remember first playing. It was Christmas break 1999 and I was a resident manager of a student housing complex. The other managers and most of the residents went home for the 2 weeks. I was from the area so I stayed to watch over the 300 mostly empty apartments and was very very bored. So first I downloaded and played and beat Mech Warrior. Then I wanted another, but the only game I could find for free on torrent sites that worked was UT99. I downloaded it and installed it. I beat the bots and Xan of course....but then I went online! I played CTF Face as my first map and didn't know what was going on! How were these people so good? Were the cheating? LOL I am super competitive ex athlete, so I was hooked!

FYI, at this point I've purchased UT about 3 times, plus the new ones as well. So they got their money and more!

Admittedly I didn't buy UT the 1st time out. I later bought the GOTY version, and Unreal Anthology after that, but back in 1999 I got my first UT from Mike.

Mike was the guy that serviced a lot of his friends computers, and while he was stingy with the demo version of ut99...when the full version came out he burned CD's for everybody. He even made his own little patch to get around the CD in the drive requirement from the original version.

He gave me his original download CDs later on too. After 436 came out, he didn't need the original discs anymore.

People with ultra high towers full of cd/dvd burners.. napster and p2p followups.. (miss p2p chat from napster!)
I even had a teacher at school who was throwing around lists with movies and pirated games lol.
The internet was still a special place.

born in 95, UT came out in 99 so I was about 4 when it came out but I was introduced to it in 2002 I would've been 7 around then, it was being shared around with my brother among other kids in the high school yard in his year

I was 3 years old when UT99 came out. I believe I got introduced to it somewhere between the age of 4 and 7.

I didn't even know the game existed because I was playing quake for a year after Unreal came out. then UT

It was on the news on dutch television, they clamed that ut99 was the first game wich came out with internet acces so that the players can be playing to eachother.
