Yes, is very important to ask permission first.
Although, and I may do this but I don't advise it, if you do edit maps before getting permission it's okay ONLY if you're not planning to share it with others.
Periodically some maps I've edited that pop up in my screenshots have gotten the attention of the actual mappers that originated them... but I only set them up for downloads after getting permission.
I've still got some emails floating out there that've been waiting for responses for several months to a year. Sometimes it's impossible to reach old time players as they've moved on or don't have internet anymore or were abducted by aliens and eaten or changed emails without email forwarding.
Buggie, please respect author's prohibition and community guidelines. To publish that map on another platform isn't a solution.

Very well, I'll bring back the attachment once I'm back from work (just left home) or Buggie can bring it back himself now @Buggie would be a good addition to your release threads to add "with permission from the original mapper" just to avoid confusion for next time.

I remember I took your map as a good example for the Burger-CTF gametype ... I ...edited it as well and didn't ask for permission.
Ok I only placed the burger in the centre of the map so the mod can't replace other pick-ups.
I'm guilty as well.

@Buggie: I see permission was given, so sorry for suspecting you!

The point originally was that it said not to edit without permission, and I wasn't asked.
I think confusion and irritation could have been avoided by better communication both times, and respecting the author(s) more. Now that that is all out of the way, lets move on and hopefully have maps that everybody can be happy with.
