DM-TurboGen23

Post by browndl »

Well, I had another idea. Just a small DM level.

I would love to hear your feedback.

Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate. That was a little weird.

I test maps generally with bots and by double-clicking the map file rather than going directly into the game... and doing so showed you defaulted the GameType of the map to Class'UnrealShare.DeathMatchGame.

HUD was Unreal1, not ut99.

You should've gone with Class'Botpack.DeathMatchPlus'.

Other than that, it looks nice.

Well, another quite interesting level! It isn't even that small and pretty detailed.
One thing I'd like to recommend is to attach a readme to the map so people will be able to get in touch with you.
But really, it's a cool map! Thanks! :D

Wow. Thanks for pointing that out. I will certainly change it.

Yes, you are correct. I just forgot since there were no additional files needed to be included. Appreciate you looking at the level.

Nicely designed with a good flow around the map - has the feeling of a real place. Good action on all levels, with plenty of z-axis action as well :gj:

Perhaps look at
1) PlayerStart8 is close to the rocket launcher and so has possibly an advantage? Seems to be closer to a weapon than any other start?
2) PlayerStarts 5 and 10 are probably too close together?

Purely a personal view but the decorative small brick squares here
Shot00491.jpg
are out of place in a utilitarian building like this (and to me they jar and look too busy with the small squares and multiple horizontal and vertical 'lines'). I'd just go with the brick texture in this space but, like I say, that's just a personal, aesthetic view.

Thanks for the comments. I moved player starts(s) 8 and 10 to hopefully more appropriate positions.

I am pleased that you thought the place had a 'real place feel', that was my hope. With the room with the small squares I was aware that it was somewhat incongruous.
I was attempting to build from the experience that I have had many times when I have visited some manufacturing facility which is all utilitarian and industrial in esthetics and then they have this reception area that is totally out of place with the rest of the building. If it really doesn't work I can certainly change it.
Probably overthinking it, but that was my reasoning.

Thanks -EVERYONE- for checking out the map. I have been having a great time making these maps lately and I hope you all are enjoying them.

Certainly enjoying your maps - they all have something fresh and different :tu:

Get your reasoning about the texture - how about just continuing the theme on the wall with the windows - that brick on the bottom and the light coloured render/plaster(/?) above - would make it a bright room with a clean feel different to the rest of the building?

Updated the download link in the first post. Addressed and made the suggested changes given by those who play tested. Also added a 'readme'. And added a few decorative light fixtures.

Looks pretty nice from the screenshots and video. I will have to check it out later.

I swapped the correct gametype in setup, and it worked nice.

Bots use the entire space, even going to up high spots I didn't think they would.

Excellent! I am thrilled you enjoyed it. The updated file has the correct game type.
Thanks for playing.

Taking a note toward Engine's fuzzy stuff in calculating "ActorReachable"... it's EPIC...
PathNode62 and PathNode67 (what I see so far) were funky connected through stairs and... over stairs in the same time...
In this stage probably it won't be seen any issue as long as they can climb stair and falling to target node in other side like they got suddenly smarter but... if there would be some wall (like in other map) movement would be funny...
And... UT 469c does the same lousy paths...

Nice! Looks like a well balanced DM map, perfect for 6 players or less.
