Hey everybody,
I posted this reply in the original thread for the 25th Anniversary of UT99, but due to the event nature of my reply I thought maybe I should post it as its own thread.
So this was my post in the original thread:
"Recently I played a map on Monsterhunt (can't remember the name) where at the end there was a little theater with a big screen on which a video was playing that essentially thanked the player for palying this map.
Now I thought maybe if somebody could create a small theater like that as its own map, we could do a little celebration event. What I mean by that is the following:
Somebody creates a small map where everybody is spawning in front of the theaters main entrance; maybe at a crossroad in the city or something. From there the players can go through the entrance into the cinemas main hall with a few concession stands, arcade machines, red carpet everywhere, you know just to set the mood. Then from there everybody can go to the big cinemahall with the big screen. And here is where the main event is happening:
The screen will show a tribute video consisting of real-life homemade clips from 1999-2024 of every community member/UT-Player who has and is willing to contribute such recordings of them and their friends playing UT99. Old VHS segments would be the most nostalgic but of course recent recordings of "still having fun with a 25 year old game" are as great. And in that process we can maybe even honor those who loved UT but aren't with us anymore.
This exclusive map with its video, would be (at first) only avaiable on UTs birthday and a few times in december on whatever servers. A time schedule would be in place according to which this map gets hosted and shows the video. The server admin has to be online at that time to show the video. What I mean by that is that the admin gets access to a certain hidden room only the admin has access to. In that room there will be an ordinary UT Lever. The admin checks if enough people are there. If enough people came to see the video he will press the lever and the video will start."
