DM-SimCity

Post by jmartin »

This Sim City Project began as an experiment to see if an entire city could be constructed entirely from Movers. Buildings and skylines that change and "evolve" over time.

Players familiar with the video game "Sim City" may recognize a few of the famous landmarks included in this map, plus a secret area which pays tribute to da' man himself, Will Wright, the creator of Sim City.

Police Stations, Fire Departments and Hospitals are not movers as they do not evolve in the original game unless you bulldoze them.

If anyone would like to participate in this project, all original buildings (pre mover conversion) are still intact.

Would recommend making the base-plates (foot print) not larger than 1024 x 1024, and building heights (high rises, sky scrapers, etc) not be more than about 1600 high.

There are probably more than 100 tile sets for Sim City 2000, I have made about 30, with a lot of extra room to grow if anyone is interested in adding to this map.

Thanks and good luck Mayor.

- Use the Jump Boots to access the Hospital Roof top.

- Use the teleporter to enter the Secret Gallery.

- Shoot the Lightning Bolt to play the Sim City Theme Song. (Not Connected Yet)

- No bot paths or pickups yet. Only 1 PlayerStart.

- Surface trains are random-automatic. Subway is manual Trigger.

I just have to see if this works, you gone mover crazy. yeehaw.

I like maps that do stuff.

Get the feeling like I want the movers to flip me around the map.
Everything seems to work. !!

The second installment of the Sim City project.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/bwaih779 ... y.zip/file

DM-SimCity2000g.unr has more player starts, pickups, path nodes and music. Shoot the lightning bolt to turn music on and off.

DM-SimCity2000Static02.unr has a different layout with zero movers (aside from the trains) and a water zone. It's basically just a static display case for each building.

After conducting a little research it turns out there is another Sim based map called “DM-TheSims” (aka Unreal Sims) made in 2000 by Nick (NikNak) Diamon, which is pretty cool (see below). This is a very unique themed map with a lot of custom textures.

I also took the liberty of re-uploading this map in its original condition, except I included the 2 missing texture files “Citytex.utx” and “Urban.utx”, so you don't have to spend time looking for them to run the map.

Nick also has at least 2 other maps, “CTF-Hawking” and “DM-FlyInOintment” which I can't find. If anyone sees it please reply. Nick's email address seems to no longer be valid so I can't ask him.

I've also included an actual Sim City 2000 map called “Borax City”, a relatively young city with a decent budget, at least one of each zone, plus Police, Fire, Hospital, Seaport, Airport, Subway and surface rail. If you have Sim City 2000, you can copy this file into the Cities folder and check it out.

And if you're really into Sim City probably the best Sim spin off of all time is Sim Copter which allows you to test your piloting skills, and fly, walk around in, and explore all of those excellent Sim Cities you've made over the years. :-)

I've never played SimCity, but I've heard some themes.

Are there "people" on the map walking around with emoji type things over their heads?

I think so, also "Second Life" has the same kind of format. I never actually played The SiMs. I tried playing it once when it first came out, but couldn't get into it. Sim Copter was the spin-off I really went berserk over. Probably played through it at least 3 times.

And, as for bragging rites, I actually bought the original Sim City back in 1989 at Babbages for $34. (Remember Babbages?) I even got the Terrain Editor, and Graphics Sets mod, Future Cities, Ancient Asia, Medieval and Wild West.

After all these years, I thought if I held onto it long enough, some wealthy Saudi might buy it on eBay for like a million bucks. NOT! :-)

Ironically, it costs the exact same amount of money now as it did 36 years ago. I think I'll just put mine in a frame and hang it on the wall.

PS, found another one of Nik Nak's maps, CTF-Hawking. It's pretty cool. A compact Space Arena map.

PSS. After a tertiary review I must admit there is something unsettling about huge buildings flipping around like that. Kind of like the city that rolls in on itself in the movie "Inception" or “Doctor Strange”.
