DM-Chill-UT4

Hi there!

This is a port of the original UT4 map with a few little changes you might want to discover on your own! (Including two additional little areas). Map is scaled 85% of the original.

If you don't know the map from UT4: Theme is an ancient environment with old buildings, wooden bridges and torches instead of artificial light. Each of the areas covers at least two weapons or an item and a weapon. Powerups can be reached via jumping, dodging or lift jump. I did not add a redeemer although the outdoor area of the map offers potential for the weapon as there is quite some open space. Maybe in a future version! :wink:

Added fully working bot pathing, bots take all items and use all of the lifts!

I like this demake! However, I had to find the music package, not supplied here, to play it. ^^'

Never a good idea to only send the .unr file, as most maps have other files needed in order to play the map.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

what a pity Epic stopped ut4, at least i hope more official maps done by epic could be ported to ut99, at least im aware of, i think its the first official dm map from ut4

Bots seem to go everywhere, music is great, and I don't recall seeing much in the way of any jump pads.

This is a awesome conversion, and a strong addition to the other UT4 Map conversions!
Thanks for sharing this!

I've bin informed that you've bin made aware of a few spots in the map where the fps can significantly drop due to too much polygons being rendered.
Would be awesome if this can be addressed, then it's ready to lock and load on our FFN server!

Yeah it is a bit of an FFA map but I think that is fine :)

Yeah that is actually true. It also depends a bit on the user's settings in their .ini whether or not they have a lot of framedrops. The original version had alot more details, we have already gone through the map and reduced brushes/surfaces for decorational purpose. However, in our community people haven't complained about massive framedrops anymore so I think we have reached a level of compromise between the amount of details/decoration and fluent gameplay. Removing more deco will kind of kill the atmosphere of the map imo

Could probably play around with zoning or turning some brushes to semi-solid/non-solid for that bit more. Didn't have noticeable issues myself on my Lenovo Thinkpad lol so can't say.

Thanks again! The map is truly great!

We gave it a go anyway last Friday, and had overall positive results.
I do see FPS numbers dropping, but i don't notice it in-game on my own system.

Secretly also hoping to see a DM-Underland conversion one day!

Do you have any plans to port more ut4 maps to ut99 at least for dm and ctf (It could not have to be exactly Epic's map made)? thanks in advance

I am currently working on a CTF map, it's partly a port of a UT4/UT2004 map. Not revealing more info yet ;)
Regarding Underland - you are not the first one to ask! In UT4 I like the map alot, however, I am not sure how well it would play in UT99 TDM gameplay. I still might give it a go!

Chill took me quite some time to finish...
I started it in December 2022 and then never finished it... Originally I was planning to use parts of it for a CTF map (I usually make CTF maps) but it did not work out so I stopped working on it altogether. During Christmas holidays 2023 I decided to at least finish the TDM version of the map (port so to say) but i didn't manage to finish it on time for the TDM cup so I stopped working on it again. During Christmas holidays last year I added the additional minigun area and optimized the map a bit for UT99 TDM gameplay with the help of the community and eventually it was decided to add the map to the TDM cup maplist this year. And so I decided to share it with you guys after Berserker suggested to make a post on this forum.

I will keep you guys posted for further maps! ;)

wait...Underland? is another map? where can I download sir? :) I misread lol sorry
