Re: This might be it.
The fact that any HDD or SSD might need replacing after prolonged use because it might crash, destroying all data on it, is known. And my theory is that's what's happened here. It's related to any computer use, not just playing a game. You just need to know the early symptoms and realize it's time to migrate.
My heart breaks here for another reason: very clear symptoms of dementia. I really feel for EG here, his current predicament is nothing to scoff at.

Hi EG! I hope you have some good people around you who can take care of you in the future. That said, I also hope you get a new/used cheap pc so that you can have the opportunity to continue with your good contributions to all of us in our community.! -and hopefully still have the opportunity to relax playing UT99. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. Anyway - thanks for your contributions over the years!

I read it and i am confused. Still alive mom and pops and such problems with memory? What's going on? I know that medicine in USA is in deep crisis, so maybe wrong treatment from illness? I am not a doctor, but MRI scan of head and neck seems to be needed. Was it done? So many questions...GEARvision wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 1:14 am To clear any remaining doubts

@Patrick Bateman He probably has dementia, there is not much you can do about it. Only to try to slow it down with medicine. It really sucks!

Re: This might be it.
So... hi.
Nice types popped into PMs to see how I was so here's an update.
· Computer is still dead.
· Memory issues of my own seem to have been stress related, I'm past that now... near as I can tell I remember things more or less fine now, but I really can't tell unless something I can't remember comes up.
· Dad has said he'll give me an old computer of his, older than what I previously had, but it's an Apple. Not really a fan of those but I suppose it's better than nothing.
Oh, about this...
Only real internet access I've had the last few weeks has been on my new SmartPhone... which is okay but a strain on the eyes.
But I'm alive.
Reached out to @MEAT as he's the only UT player here I know that's geographically near me. Maybe he can fix my old system, maybe not... but I'm going stir crazy being so cut off, and not only due to not having UT anymore. All my music, family photos, and other stuff was on there.
Although... I suspect some of you might be okay with the lack of screenshot posts from me since this all started.

Re: This might be it.
There are various tricks that people have employed to revive a hard disk long enough to pull the data off of it (and beyond), regardless of whether it's mechanical or a SSD. I've never attempted any of these myself, but there are countless examples on forums and other social media (e.g., a firm slap to release a stuck mechanical HD head).
Other than repairs, and the donated Apple, if it's within your means, you can find some decent deals on second-hand PCs on eBay. As long as you're not looking for something especially recent, you can get a machine that's 4 or 5 CPU generations old for whatever the current USD equivalent of £100 is (something like an 8th gen Intel i5). Such a machine would be more than sufficient for UT.
Stress can certainly have severe (and occasionally baffling) consequences for your health. A few years back I experienced a stress-induced ocular migraine, where my vision filled with stringy beads of vibrating, coloured lights. If it hadn't been so disconcerting, it would have been strangely beautiful.

Good. I am glad that you do not have dementia and alive. I am also glad that you are online again.EvilGrins wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 12:34 am ...according to my Doctor, scans and an MRI, I do not have dementia.

I miss your funny pictures on HOF forum. We might have different senses of humor, but because of you i watched first Loki season, in 2021, and i like it.
Please post you favorite music videos and funny pictures again in the future, as i said - i missed them.

Man, that sucks, you're one of the old legends I remember playing with too! (Might know me as VatcilliZeichef)
I can't do anything about the stress-induced memory loss... But if money is needed for repairs/upgrades I would be happy to chip in for an old bro!
Maybe that would indirectly help the stress? Wahaha.
