My bad I didn't know that. What site would you recommend?Qwerty wrote:not to burst your bubble but ut-files.com is not a reliable source for renderersLee_Stricklin wrote:For rendering your going to want the latest version of Direct3D 8 available here: http://www.ut-files.com/Video_Renders/D ... 3d8r14.zip (don't listen to everybody else who uses OpenGL). IF YOUR GOING TO USE CD2 TEXTURES READ THIS: you need change the settings on your renderer before you install these textures. To change the settings: Start up UT, open your system console, and type in preferences and then hit enter. After that click on the + on rendering and then the + on Direct3D 8. After that scroll down until you see something that says use S3TC or something like that and change it to true. The CD 2 textures cause problems with character animations online, but there's a fix that the link for it is right here: http://hermskii.com/Files/S3TC-Texture-Fix-03-01-07.zip
I'll post another reply showing you my Direct3D 8 settings.

Re: Fresh install- What to download
NP I would use the sites that actually maintain the latest releases and of course this site that were on

then there are renderers.
For nvidia cards there is an updated open g/l driver which makes UT rock --->
If you use openGL as a renderer for UT then this is one of the most important downloads you will ever need.

A Tweaked out openGL driver for the best game on the planet. Just click "The latest stable OpenGL" and follow the "Install Instructions" a little further down the page.
IF using an ATI based Video card.
If you use Direct 3d as your renderer I'd recommend using TNSE's Direct3d renderer instead of the default. http://www.apbs47.dsl.pipex.com/ut/D3DTNSeDrv.zip Though I dont use Direct3d anymore I have tried this renderer out, and it does quite well.

Re: Fresh install- What to download
I have alot of old ut files on my ftp server...the eax patch base, and the ctf/dm addon, the OldUnreal Multimedia Patch, Immersion Patch, the Patch 436 exploit and Win2k Creeping Ping Exploit, and a bunch of other goodies.
If you want, I can upload them to my filefront account, and post a link here. =)
A little note: for palying the UT series for a long time, you colelct these old, itneresting files that one day is very hard to find.
Edit1: Because I am such a very, very nice guy, I am uploading all the old files and some other goodies (like the Unreal Font, the FrozenTag mod, and other old goodies that is extremely hard to find now these days) to Filefront. =) I'll post a link once it's done uploading.
Edit2: Check out this thread on UT99.org for my 19 rare ut99 files to download: http://www.ut99.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=209
Enjoy!

Re: Fresh install- What to download
I just downloaded the updated OpenGL (my last one was dated) renderer and tried many different tweaks on it and I still recommend the Direct3D 8 renderer. While it does have more options than Direct3D 8 it still doesn't look as good (you actually won't notice this while playing) and because there's no frame rate limit option you might have slowdowns on lower-end systems. On the Direct3D 8 renderer you can set the frame rate as low as you want so that your FPS stays EXACTLY the same no matter what happens, hell I have decal stay enabled (decals stay the ENTIRE match) and my sytem maintains a 30 FPS (stays the same no lower no higher) even in 2-hour long matches.Qwerty wrote:NP I would use the sites that actually maintain the latest releases and of course this site that were on

Re: Fresh install- What to download
hmm i run a steady 75FPS with open g/l it never drops. I guess it depends on your system. I noticed no difference between open g/l and D3D graphics on two different pc's. A lot of people dont know that for open g/l to work the way it should you need to "manually" edit the ut.ini and paste in the new open g/l settings.

Thanks for all your answers, but as everybody is talking something different, could someone please sum it up?

No disrespect but... that's nothing! (wish I could post an image to prove this) Direct3D 8 and Direct3D 9 (all the options found in OpenGL + Direct3D 8 + better graphics than both = awesome) kill it.{SBZ}_BaDaSS wrote:If you do OpenGL right you will get this.....

Again it REALLY depends on what video card you have.....Lee_Stricklin wrote:No disrespect but... that's nothing! Ok, may be this way:
I have got a Geforce 7900GT with 256 MB. What renderer do I use for best visual quality?

Re: Fresh install- What to download
I think the Latest Direct 3D looks almost exactly the same as the latest Open GL (add 2 to the LOD Bias on Direct 3D and it will look identical), but Direct 3D has that FPS limit option (set the FPS so it doesn't go past a certain limit) that can prevent a lot of slowdowns on older systems. I personally prefer Direct 3D 9 over Open GL and the videocard I am using right now is a PNY Verto Geforce 6200 256MB PCI Card and I have a Pentium 4 HT running at 3.06 GHz and 512 MB RAM.

Not only was I talking about picture quality, but Maybe nobody saw the frames per second in that pic?

open g/l also has the FPS limit
