Server not detected? wtf?
Hey people, I've been having some problems with my server and stuff. I think it could probably be because of the router or something, any ideas on how to help?

Server not detected where? In the UT master server list?
If so, did you check the Advertise Server option?
If not, then you already know your problem

Already enabled... the server does not appear neither on the server listing nor can be detected by gametracker and similar.

Re: Server not detected? wtf?
did you dedicate an local i.p to your server? i.e 192.168.1.xxx? it has to be an address that none of the other dhcp computers get. (if there are any others) then you need to forward ports 7777-7783,8080,27900 in your router to the i.p you assigned to your dedicated server. then go to http://www.whatismyip.com this wil show yo your internet i.p address. try to connect to that address.

No, i didn't use a local IP. I used the real IP on whatsmyip.com.
How do I forward the ports?

Re: Server not detected? wtf?
what router do you have?
( wheew! I thought i was too late for the thread lol)
basically whats happening is that you are running a server, but your router masks or hides you from the outside world. Forwarding the ports that UT uses will make you visible to them.

Re: Server not detected? wtf?
I have a question.
I have a D-Link DI-604 router, and am wondering when I port foward do I use 'Virtual Server' or the 'Special Application'.
Am trying to run a dedicated server but it dosen't show up.
Also correct me if am wrong or forgot something, but the ports to foward are; 7777-7783, 8080, 9777, and 27900.

Re: Server not detected? wtf?
Ok so I port fowarded the way portfoward.com does it, plus the other ports they forgot to mention.
But am still not bein detected, even the lan won't show anything.
I made sure that i check mark 'advertize on server' and unchecked 'optimize for lan'.
am using port 8777.
I can access it through typing in the address, but my friends can't.
What am I doing wrong?

Re: Server not detected? wtf?
Hehe,
You guys must know how this portforward thing actually works...
Your router is basically a masking instrument for outside world to your lan and also to your lan to outside world. Now you must know that the router has all ports enabled from lan to outside world. You can block any specific ports which we refer to as port firewalling. Similarily, but on the contrary, all ports are blocked from outside world to your computer.
There is another aspect that your router is accessible from both ends. So you need to disable active ports on your router so as to make it secure and unbreachable.
Now comes the real part. If you port forward a port from your local machine, there is a filter added to your router that if someone from outside world tries to access your router at that port, it will make your machine transparent to that peer.
What you are trying to do is that you are typing the IP of your router and trying to access a server which is hosted on lan. This will never work because all ports of outside world are accessible. All requests your machine sends to router will be routed to outside world and not the lan. If you waana access your local server, the only way is to use your lan ip address or 127.0.0.1 if it is same machine where server is running.
Hope that clarifies...
