Well... I am not sure if I got such an email, it might have been so. Usually, I wish to get such an email just to know where my maps are, where I did upload them and where a possible warehouse situation is.

In general, I have no problem with a site hosting my works, as long as they do not change anything. Best thing is to contact me that you do, and in most cases I send an answer back. Please note that this might either take a while or I simply overlook it due to the amount of mails (of *all kinds*) float my mailspace every day. As Shade has stated, he sent me an email - which I can't remember. But he also stated he didn't change anything, so I don't see any nessecity of beginning an argument here. It seems okay to me.

The reason you give credits is that you show your respect to the owners of something else. Not everything is related to Epic. Texturemakers, modellers, even musicians provide something for the mappers to use. By giving credit to them, you show your respect, by not mentionning them, you disregard people and the things they stand for. Like warehouses. I remember a warehouse that set his own watermarks upon our previewshots, changing our data archives and regarding our work as theirs.

So as far as this goes, I have no gripes about the packages being uploaded here, but it is a safe bet authors want know you want to host their works.

I apologize if i sounded like i was flaming.. I just get upset when people come in a forum like omg you have no permission to use this or that and they try to scare you as if they will file lawsuit.. Ive seen so many times on so many forums.

I totally agree on showing love to the creators of the fine work created for UT99.

I would also like to thank everyone for their contributions.

In an open community such as this one, the only Creators who would object to you giving their work more coverage are the ones who most likely those who have a commercial career in mind - however being as picky as that wouldn't look good, if their future employers try finding out public information about their works.

In a more direct point - Atleast make sure it has the creators name attached to it (Which the txt file does).

Not every admin has time to email EVERYSINGLE creator and nor do the creators have time to reply to EVERYSINGLE request.

Do YOU have to email a customised-server the first time you connect and download their unique material or pay "respekts" to the creators of the content of their server? No.

So don't worry too much, if a creator doesn't want it somewhere and hears of it, no doubt they will contact and ask for it to be removed

One of my favorite mappacks is the UNLD Nocturnal mappack...DM-UNLD-Epitaph and DM-UNLD-Venom...what sweet maps...all of them are sweet!

That was furpile wasn't it? Most of my maps ended up there. . .actually I think there is a 4 way CTF version of croon up somewhere. . .how or why I don't know, never did follow that up lol. In either case I'm not sure I really care where my maps end up to be honest. . .if people take the time to distribute them I take it as a compliment. . .saves me having to pimp myself :P

L.J.,
Have you done any UT2003 or 2004 maps?

And telling something about "mappers being gone" might be true in some cases, but for nearly all of the packs Shade uploaded, the contributors are still active. Besides, you cannot know whether they are "gone", if you don't even try to contact them...
I would be nice, and heck he could lie and say he did, but he is being honest about it. There is no shame in sharing other people's work in the context it was originally intended.

I think you should contact these creators and see if they feel upset about this "disrespect" you speak of. I highly doubt they'd feel that way and if they do I'm sure he would apologize to them sincerely.

So, get to fraggin and quit yer belly-achin!
