Resolution - Textures - Screenshoting - stupid title, I know

Post by Creavion »

Ok thats the situation
I import this texture into the ut2004 ed ..
http://www.davegh.com/blade/010415/mur007.jpg

add this detail texture

(with a detaillevel of 32 or something)

to have this result:

However, screenshoting a 2048 x 2048 texture (s3tc version of a texture) ist far not possible for me [my monitor sucks I know]... even not with faststone capture (small tool, which can capture the complete window - IF it has a scrollbar - which is only available on vertical direction as you might see and know)

OF COURSE I tried to immitate the UnrealEd + Detailtexture effect with photoshop with my known ways HOW it could work, nothing (structures or examples, german version, dont know how it is called on english) could produce something suitable.

So, anybody here willing to help me out? Either with a for me unkown way to screenshot the complete texture as 2048² or with photoshop? (edit: I mean how it could be done there)

You can always screenshot it in parts.
If you can screenshot a 1024x1024 texture, just screenshot the 4 corners (in a way you can see the most), open each one with paint and take out the green borders, and stay only with the current texture itself (do not forget which one is which corner), then open a new file (in paint again) with 2048x2048, and copy and paste each corner there (just focus in the corners).
Then save it as bmp and do whatever you like with it  (if done right, you will have the full texture just like in UT2004).

This is a way I know that doesn't need ANY extra software (I am used to use Paint a lot rofl).

BTW: It's better to screenshot each corner with more than 1024x1024, it doesn't need to be a perfect 1024x1024, since even when you paste the parts in the new image you won't notice it.

No I CAN NOT screenshot it in parts. Its not possible. I can not scroll horizontal in the ed. Its not possible. Thats the sadly the mistake with your idea. Overall it can not be.. that must be way to fake something like that in photoshop.

1024² is the max I can screenshot. Everything above that is a no way for me.

Well, although it might look bad or at least weird, you can screenshot the 1024x1024 piece of it and then make 4 mirrors of it, and that way you get a 2048x2048 seemingless texture, based on that one, again.
But again, it might look bad or weird at minimum.

EDIT: Btw, didn't you have some sort of app that could export the textures your Graphic card has saved in its memory (I mean, export a texture ingame from any loaded map)?
You can always make a new simple map, where you have that texture apllied, a playerstart and that app on. Just another idea though.

I tried that with this mirroring already, but so far only in one piece. If nothing helps I have to split the texture really in 4 parts, what a pain. :/

And ferali.. ingame I can promise you.. ONLY the texture itself would be exported, the detail texture as an other one. I mean, it is not logical?

But can't you just aplly the detail texture to the big texture again normally in Ued? I mean, if it's a detail texture, it's better to aplly it in the Ued itself, plus that would give you the possibily of making other variations of the same texture and with other detail textures.
