I'm having problems with the sounds on UT 99 on Windows 7, 32 bit. I have played UT 99 on the same computer when it still had Windows XP installed without any issues. On Windows 7, the game sounds like I am using very low quality speakers and as if it can't handle the sounds so it produces white noise-like sounds along with the game sounds. The game plays fine; the sounds are the only noticeable issue I've encountered.
I also play other old games in this PC without any sound problems (Quake 3 Arena, Postal 2, GTA San Andreas, etc.). I tried running the game in Admin Mode and in Windows XP compatibility mode, to no avail. I've tried disabling Hardware 3D sound, but I still get the same problem. Same with toggling high quality or low quality sound.
My PC's motherboard has an integrated SoundMAX soundcard (SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio). I am currently using Windows Update-provided drivers.
Anyone know any possible workarounds/solutions?

Change Latency=40 to Latency=60 in your UnrealTournament.ini under [Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem]

Thanks, this worked! Sounds are now fine. What does this variable do, by the way?Raynor wrote:Change Latency=40 to Latency=60 in your UnrealTournament.ini under [Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem]

Re: Sound issue on Windows 7
Latency is a short period of delay (usually measured in milliseconds) between when an audio signal enters and when it emerges (through speakers) from a system.
