Time for a little contest

Post by JackGriffin »

So let's get the important stuff out of the way. What are you competing for? Well, my friends, what could be more appropriate than this:
IMG_20130127_073212.jpg
Included:
1) Retail 2 CD Unreal Tournament disks with original jewel case AND full-color insert/manual.
2) Retail Single CD Unreal Missions Pack 1 Return to Na Pali with original jewel case and original black & white insert/manual.

I will cover all shipping costs to the winner and will ship immediately when a winner is declared.

So what's the contest? Well, here I need some help. Some ground rules I would like to keep are:
-No money involved. If you commit anything to winning it should only be time.
-It should be fair for everyone so anyone can have a decent chance.
-Let's keep things friendly, there will be more of these if this goes well.

So if you are creative then reply back with some ideas on how to contest these out, otherwise I'll just take names and do a live 'drawing' via Skype of all the names submitted. My aim in this is to try to stir some interest in the UT community as things are getting very quiet lately. Nothing brings out people like a freebie so let's get this off the ground and maybe get some eyeballs on UT99.org and some interest in UT.

I posted a new thread for this paper. For some reason the Events forum won't update to the 'New Posts' page so I just made a clean thread. I'm just going to go for a pure raffle for this one and see if there is any interest in something like this at all. I've been quietly stockpiling odds-and-ends UT gear with the idea of starting some sort of contest series with real prizes. I've a feeling UT is going to take a real beating in the down time this spring so it's my little way of trying to mitigate some of the damage. I guess we will see how it goes.

Fixed.
In those cases, it's better to drop me a PM first so I can look into the problem. Generally this sort of things can be quickly fixed in the phpBB admin bo.

I started to ping Frieder via G+ to look at it but I saw he hadn't been around here since before Christmas. That's cool that you have the backend access to do it though. I appreciate you fixing it.

If you want, you can delete this thread completely and I'll add the pics and description to the announce thread?

Wait.. what a drawing contest :D? I think a live drawing contest will take long..... if you wanna watch me draw for 8 hours x) (or you must cam yourself drawing and then speeding it up?)
What kind of rules are there for the contest? Color/grey/pencil/paint/size/digital/theme/style etc?

Let's see who still has the most real Voodoo video cards!

or

See who has the best way to legally propagate the UT game itself to others?

or

Who can win a Redeemer Only Tourney over at HOOK's but only known named members from here can join?

or

Who can best guess the amount of something that someone has here like maps on Feralidragons player install? He's honest.

or

Who can guess something about you Kelly that nobody knows yet all can fairly guess at. Just go ahead and send me the disks please. Thanks! LOL!

Au contraire! You all are now included into the drawing on Sunday ;) See how painless that is?

That reminds me, I have to set up for this drawing. I'll reply back today with the information to watch the live physical drawing of the name from the hat.

Very generous of you Jack!

A mapping contest would the most obvious option (also because there's a lot of mappers in this site), but would probably be a bit too time consuming. On the other hand a contest like the Blito3's 300K contest (every map must be smaller than 300Kb in filesize) could work, since the maps are built very quickly (I remember that my entries for the first 300K contest were created in few days (I made 5 maps in like 2 weeks), some in 5-6 hours) and mapping skill wouldn't play such a big part since there isn't much space for details.
