the erratic HOM !!
reffering to this thread: http://www.ut99.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... 898#p17898
In my newest map (DM-GangWar-Rocketfight) I have a "Problem" with the ceiling some times appear a HOM alongside the cylinder (the base for the automatic cannons) only visible at a certain point and angle. So ...I start the geometry build process... rebuild light ...and the HOM is gone ...but at some other spot appear a new HOM again nearby the cylinder.
The ceiling is not very detailed as you can see...
http://www.ut99.org/forum/download/file ... &mode=view
what did I wrong.
Can't post the Beta-Map yet ...the internet is broken at home.
I write these lines from my working place.

Re: the erratic HOM !!
If it's causing BSP holes, did you try making it a semi-solid instead of a solid?
That usually works for me if something non-essential is causing holes/HOM's

Well if you didn't know it, give it a shot.. See how it workspapercoffee wrote:@ Emandion

Hell, if there's pretty much no way a player can collide with it, make it a non-solid.. It all depends on how your maps made, and whether there's any access to the brush by players (and bots, if you build it with bot support)
I don't pretend to be an expert, but semi-solid'ing/non-solid'ing un-essential brushes usually solves the problem, so it's worth a try, right?

@ Air
Hourences is one of my favourite mapper !!!
@Emandion
I've tried already the semi-solid thingy but it create more problems, it cause in disappearing faces on the cylinder (look through).
I think the huge cylinder are too big for the semi-solid method.
So ....I have fix it!
how?
Well ...I liftet all cylinder 1 unit, so nothing can be touched.
then going to disable the optimizing process and adjust the lever for zone cutting to the minimum.
Voilà!!! no weird cuttings and the HOM is gone.
It is not the smartest way to solve the problem, but it work.
Now I centre on the Gameplay ...it is good ...but not realy good.
I upload the map today with pictures.

Re: the erratic HOM !!
From what I've heard it's better to fix the problem than to avoid it.. And try to avoid using 1 unit gaps.. That causes unclean mapping since, as we all know, the editor prefers works in multiples of two

semi-solid is for small brush and details perfect.
http://phalanx.planetunreal.gamespy.com ... l_semi.htm <= this was very helpfull
Re: the erratic HOM !!
If all else fails and you must lift them off the ground...
Lift them 32 units and under it make a 32 unit non-solid trim. No gap, no cuts.
Perhaps post a SS so we can see exactly what you're talking about
Also, it's not really advised to touch any of the sliders in the rebuild window.
99% of the time they're fine where they are.
