[TributeServer] - ClassicUT99 - All in One (incl coop!)

Post by esnesi »

I've abandoned this topic, and decided to post future updates in FFN
____________________________________________________________________________

Hi all!
I thought, it's about time to devote an topic here on UT99.org for the server ClassicUT99.
Meanwhile we're mostly known as FFN, although i still like the old TributeServer tag :)
Will post regular server updates and more changes here.

Mission:
Dedicated to the mission of gathering all most (in)famous played Gametypes/Mods/Mutators in one server.
Tributing and enjoying these classics till we are not able anymore!

When is the last time you checked out Team/Multi CTF, or even heard "Crrooottcchh Shott!" ?

Q. Is it going to take ages for me, to enter the server?

A. -No, You will only receive downloads for the GameType playing at that moment luckily!
Redirect is in place. So fast in!

Credits go of course to all coders/mappers who created this beautiful content!
Esp. GoPostal, his source-code is in everywhere :agree1:

Also a BIG THANKS goes out to:

Asosed (FNN)
21 (GunGame / several server enhancements)
Deepu (UN/MVE/UP)
FeraliDragon (NWIII)
Leo T_C_K (SP Packs & UWeapons)
3 (3's Coop server)
Sektor2111 (Mindfulness)

Any feedback, or suggestions are welcome!
Let me know about those mismatches! ;)

Sounds nice, so I might try it out sometime, but just a quick question: I am quite unfamiliar on how these mapvotes work and all, so is the server somehow optimized to only send the packages it's actually using at any given point in time?

I imagine that in order to just play some instagib or other smaller or standard mutators, the server shouldn't make the client download several hundreds of MB worth of packages not being used for that particular match, so I am wondering... :)

Very much correct!
You only download the packages which are required for the Gametype that is playing at that moment.

Yes, downloads/ServerPackages are separated by GameType luckilly! Redirect is in place. So fast in :tu:

These are the current ServerPackages for when entering the server the first time (under DM/LMS/TDM/CTF):

ServerPackages=IntroCUT99.uax
ServerPackages=SendTo_v07c
ServerPackages=FastCap
ServerPackages=UNT_2
ServerPackages=UP2
ServerPackages=SBU2
ServerPackages=MVE1
ServerPackages=VA1
ServerPackages=VAData
ServerPackages=ClassicCrotchshotv1_1
ServerPackages=CountryFlags2

total =3.54mb :tongue:

Thanks for your time.

Cool. :tu:
I never really hosted a server of my own, and I never noticed in multi-mod servers with a mapvote if only the current mod packages were sent.

In that case, yeah, sounds like an interesting server to just join and try out some mods.

3 worked very hard getting those maps fixed correctly so the fact you have them is fantastic. That means he's around and responding which is fantastic in it's own right. I had thought he was moving around the servers some. There's been a player tagged as '3' playing some on my 227 coop and the IP was from the correct area. Wonderful news!

I might suggest to you that if 3 is helping you or offering advice then you would be a very wise man to listen to him. Leo, Delacroix, etc know the maps better than anyone but 3 understood the game mechanics in a way that astounded me. Plus he was always super helpful and shared anything, even the stuff he had worked hard to perfect. If he suggests something as a fix I always took it as 'need to do'.

Is there a way I can get a copy of his server maps? I will not run a competitive server and I won't run them on my 227 coop. I just want to have them to keep in an archive. When his server dropped it was a huge loss to the community.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

Indeed very proud on that fact, i could not be more thankful!
His advice and view on COOP is certainly being followed! :agree1:

Spectating 3 when he plays COOP is just a wonderful thing to watch, man he knows exactly how to ''trigger'' anything, on every frgn map!

I've played on his server alot back in 2004/5/6, when i just thought it was a ''advanced type of MH'' which he hosted.
I never knew the gametype ''co-op'' as it did not ring a bell somewhere.
(only played UT99 ladder/tournament then, never touched the SP campaign of Unreal which was sad!)

Watching these mappacks, and esp some of 3 his maps (and his crew), make me just eye and jaw dropping!
The visuals in these mappacks like Project Zephron, ONP, RTNP you name it.
Man they really look ''superior'' to every MH map to me that i ever saw.
What a flow, what a thoroughly thought process went into those designs!

I will try to get him in contact with you about those maps!

Was Sunday on your server ...it's a really nice one. Only the NN bug (wrong rendered weapons in first-person) with lower resolutions still persists.
Anyway, I hope this fine server will gain some traction. :tu:

ah yeah, forgot about that, got that set long time ago.
zrangehack=false under the renderer.

Lots of people commented on that on NewNet topics, never got fixed :/
And indeed exists in new newnet forks.
I shall see if i can contact UltimateNewNet dev.

I cannot force to change that client settings, so client can set this manually in UT.ini under Direct 3D8, 9, 10, 11 & Open GL settings.

ZRangeHack=False

There is no obvious reason why this is caused?
