I don't have one but my Mom does, and while she would never let me install UT on her computer (it's been discussed) I can't help but wonder.
Has anyone ever played UT with a touch screen?

I'd imagine if it worked at all, you'd have to tap to fire, or bind that to the keyboard. I tried playing Dawn of War on an all-in-one years ago, and it didn't quite work because of that lack of a right click. Would be cool if you got it to work with a stylus tho; it'd be like how Metroid Prime Hunters worked on Nintendo DS, which had quite a lot of controls.

There were some attempts by a Russian student (for UT4 though)

Re: I have what may be a silly question: Touch Screens
Well, strictly speaking I never played UT with a touch screen, but I already did play it with a touch pad (the laptop mouse touch pad).
And while it obviously isn't anywhere near as good as playing with an actual mouse, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it played out, but then again it's different from a touch screen in the sense that I was also using the keyboard (and UT doesn't really support multi-touch or touch controls, thus far).
Therefore is best to have a mouse, even if it's a small and more portable one that you can carry and connect.

That's more close to playing UT with a game pad but on the screen ...The_Cowboy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 9:47 am There were some attempts by a Russian student (for UT4 though)

First, i did not use a touchpad to play UT99.
But i TRIED to use a graphics tablet. For me it was unusable. I put the pen on it, first nothing happened. Then i moved the pen, i was turning around or looking up/down at high speed. Might be okay to get known to it, BUT.... after moving the pen just a little and stop, it would still let me turn around like hell.
Just imagine, you move your mouse a millimeter and hold, you wouls turn and urn and turn.....

Hmm, maybe they can customize that for the touch screen play you are envisioning.papercoffee wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 3:28 pmThat's more close to playing UT with a game pad but on the screen ...The_Cowboy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 9:47 am There were some attempts by a Russian student (for UT4 though)

Re: I have what may be a silly question: Touch Screens
I spend time at Mom's periodically, I am the tallest in the family and she's not tall at all.
Hence, getting stuff off the higher shelves is apparently my genetic destiny... or so she claims.
Anyway, I don't have a computer of my own there so I once broached the topic of putting UT on her computer.
She didn't love the idea.
