CTF-UTR-Syntra "Syntra Canyon" - Better late than never!

Post by Creavion »

Yes, botpath-issues were fixed, not by me, not by the original author, but by somebody called Delacroix (he is also more than one time mentioned in the readme). So thanks to him, this map can be finally released.
Edit: A small misunderstanding, it seems RoninMastaFX was the one fixing the botpathing (while Delacroix was looking for him to do it, sry for that). So of course thanks to him.
Edit 2: Not my day D:
I forgot the freaking preview pic, I was SURE I added it already :O

I could change that of course,.. maybe if some more bugs will be found

Extended Description
--------------------
Because S'Calain didn't bother with the story (and he's right, stories in botmatch
maps are overrated):
Red vs Blue. This classic CTF match will be carried out at nightfall in the
Syntra mountains of Arborea. The u and cascaded form of this canyon offers
possibilities not only for snipers.
====================================================================================
Author's Notes
--------------

No comment from the original author.
I (Creavion) liked this map. S'Calain didn't feel like finishing it, so I gave
it a try. I didn't manage to finish it in time for the patch pack,
but since a nice guy named Delacroix offered his help with bot-pathing,
it is now finally possible to release this map.

Some geometry is new, actual lighting (other than zone lighting and 1 sunlight) was
added, meshes and all that kinda stuff are new additions as well.
I tried my best to keep close to original atmosphere of the map.

Included xpickups files are from Patch 1.3

Thanks but a "V2" will be requiered anyway D:
I just wait for some possible reported bugs which makes the missing preview shot worth to fix.

I say a repack should be made, meaning the CMP2+both patches+Syntra. It would be way more convenient.

BTW, hello, everyone.

Then perhaps just "all in one"? If nothing more is going to be released, just make an all-in-one package and BAM! project closed :)

Then if I may give you some inspiration for an additional map...

It seems that UTR has a Morbias reenvisioning, dubbed Morbias4. Completely different and yet so similar to the original.

Now, I recently released a bonus pack for Unreal dubbed Division. In it, there is a classic beta map dubbed Morbfanza. How about a Morbfanza4 then? I'd love to see what would you do to that poor map. XD

Why always this affectation? You should be aware that this map was created among other ones by me? I allow you to address me in person^^
I called it Morbias 4, because Morbias 3 was already used somewhere. I got inspired by the style of Unreal Championship 2 maps and some facts about the UC2 version (from what Swanky told me). The rest evolved more or less at random.
I also checked of course the original map and "copied" the "one side is blue themed, the other one is red themed".

Even long before the Berserk powerup was anywise finished, I designed the map from the beginning with the knowledge I would add that powerup in this map, somewhere in a new area - away from the main arena part. Rocket Launcher + double speed, thats that I wanted. And I did not add any more weapons, because I wanted to keep there the Morbias feeling (Rocket launcher + Redeemer).

Sorry, Delacroix...I agree with Creavion...no repack of UTR1 is necessary. What's actually necessary is UTR Two!!!! :agree1:

UTR2 will not come, the time of mappacks is up. I have given up any try to make something like that again [3 trys for an addon, one try for a monsterhunt mappack]. Or should I mention btw that Swankys try on unrealplayground to make a mappack for the 10th birthday (recently) of ut also failed? Reasons for me: UT gets older and older. The last real mapper for it gets also older, they dont have the time anymore to spend hours and hours in front of the ed, creating stuff for the community. New mapper for the old game are very rare (and seriously, show me one newcomer who can create something really awesome). FOT5 and UTR were most likely the last mappacks. Get real and stop dreaming. Single maps might come here and there, but not a real mappack anymore.

Very nice work, Creav. Good polycount everywhere and the skybox is sweet. Noticed the botpathing issues but you know all about those. (Where's Cobra when you need him?)

Elevator well is pretty deep, and I got stuck in there once. It really is a nice CTF map that will stay in my rotation. :tu:

Oh, different subject. My topic on this in the "General Discussion" forum never got posted, so....there's a cool new DM map released called Dm-Polycount. Get it at:
