2012 XMas Mapping Contest Map Submissions

Post by FraGnBraG »

Okay XMas 2012 Contest mappers here's the submission thread.

When you have your map ready, just create a post, say whatever you like and ATTACH the map to the post.
The size limit for an attachment is 50 Megs.

This attachment should be a ZIP archive that contains:

- the map UNR (named "yourMapName.unr")
- a screenshot JPG (named "yourMapName.jpg")
- a README text file (named "yourMapName.txt")
- any packages needed by the map (such as UMX, UTX, UAX, U, etc)

Remember the naming convention for contest maps is "DM-XC-YourMapName" (DM, CTF, MH, etc).

Hopefully your map is not bigger than 50 Megs, otherwise you will have to split into two ZIPs etc.

Maps should be submitted up to December 15th midnight are ON-TIME.
Maps submitted after that will be accepted up to December 20th midnight but are deemed LATE.
Late maps will lose 1 point in score (see the RULES in the first post of the contest thread).

At December 20th midnight the contest is CLOSED, and all contest maps will be collected from the thread
and sent for judging... details of the judging phase and voting poll will follow.

So everyone do their best to finish

Final Note: Even if you're just about done but run out of time, just make sure you can play a match in it and wrap it up as-is.
You can always finish it up nice and pretty quickly afterwards as a V2 - there will be map-pack after the contest is judged and voted...
So there will be a short period where some maps could be bug-fixed if neccessary...

Good Luck!

Here's mine, I wasn't gonna submit it cause after seeing some of the other mappers work I felt it might be a little inferior but after thinking about it i figure what the hell. So I'm submitting now before I change my mind again. Maybe someone out there who likes Jailbreak will actually like it. It's based off the CTF and JB Face maps but it's been completely changed. So instead of two buildings facing each other it's two x-mas trees. The Arena should prove to be fun as I've added a snowball gun to it and that's the only weapon you spawn into the arena with so you have to use it. The map was built for more of a sniper type game play so keep that in mind.

Thanks

Tried to attach the file through the forum but it's not working so here is a link to download the map.

That looks interesting, specially the middle zone, a very fitting map for this contest indeed. :agree1:

Is there a way to "hide" these pictures in a spoiler? :)

I've only seen that on · http://www.unrealsp.org/forums/index.php · not here.

Livejournal has a similar feature. It's called an LJ-cut.

edit: I don't think the snow in the sky works online only offline (well it's less laggy without the snow so maybe this is a good thing)

Readme says:
For the UT99.org Christmas Mapping Contest.

I've never done anything like this:
(copy and paste Stock Epic maps together to make something new).

Thanks go out to all the mappers and creators of the pieces I used.

This map consists of A HUGE mountain range with map pieces either warp zoned or directly connected to it.

Maps I used (credit goes to the original creators of these maps) {I just "remixed" them}
AS-Tutorial
DM-Tutorial
Dom-Tutorial
Eternal-Cave
Dreary
Oblivion
Zeto
Gauntlet
EOL-Statues
CTF-QuantumFighterJets
CTF-BT-Postmodern-V3

Music made or remixed by me (and consists of 4 of my recent songs back to back)
Sounds from the game Necronomicon - the dawning of darkness

It's still a bit rough, but I have had many many problems that I didn't forsee. This is as good as it's gonna get for now. There is one main zone that refuses to be a zone, but I'll work on fixing it later.
For now the big upper lava pool is triggered kill (zone past the rocks that separate the working pool from the defective one). Ghandi Gun has one fire mode that explodes the gun doing you damage, can't remember how I got this to work in my other maps. Bot Pathing (especially outside) is substandard. Working on V2 but I don't think I'll get it by even the 20th.

"ON-TIME" submissions officially over, Five maps made it in "on-time" ...

1. JB-XC-{dFb}-X-Mas-2012 by {dFb}MattMan
2. CTF-XC-Peak17 by Swanky (hmm... this is missing a screenshot and readme file)
3. DM-XC-Ozma777 by Ozma777 (do you have an alternate download (zip or rar). The one you provided is EXE that forces a "whitesmoke" client install)
4. DM-XC-XMASROOM by ASLYE702
5. CTF-XC-SnowGlobe by GenMoKai

"GRACE" period has begun - remaining mapper's have until December 20th to get their maps in (that includes me  )

Cheers

Damn, uploaded the wrong file... The map itself is complete, but the screenshot / readme are really missing. Will be fixing this right away!
€ Download link now contains the map and the formerly missing files.

wtf stupid filesharing sites it should definately be a zip file I even downloaded it to make sure, it must have timed out on days available, I'll reupload.

The first link SHOULD work, but then again I have adblocker pro and noscript installed on my firefox so I don't get any fake file redirects.
reup on sendspace:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/gwp7u7

and uploadmirrors:
http://uploadmirrors.com/download/QMQHQ ... zma777.zip (YOURFILE DOWNLOADER IS FAKE so pick another mirror)

multiupload is down, and will not upload.

and zippyshare:
http://www54.zippyshare.com/v/89862282/file.html

Sorry for all the trouble with downloading sites. I wish I also had gotten V2 finished, but so far I have just made things worse, hopefully by the 20th I'll get a few minor things fixed and better botpathing. For now my map is totally playable. One zone doesn't work as a lavazone but it still kills you, one warpzone looks like crap but still works, and the bots don't know what to do in some situations.

I was going to mirror the whole lot on my site, so people can avoid adverts, redirects and other security issues.

But I can DL everything except files from that awful 2shared.com site.
I just get "503 Service Unavailable No server is available to handle this request."
or when I can see the page, the DL does not work (No way in hell am I installing their down-loader)

No browser on this PC works, on that site, so it is blocked by the network level security.
Anyone have a DL from a trustworthy site?

OR GET A FREE "MY.OPERA" ACCOUNT, WITH 2GB STORAGE.
NO ads, no speed limit, no bandwidth limit, no time limit, no security problems, no fussy downloads.
Just a link to a file.
